I don't think I'm going to make the early deadline, I had a final this week and that kind of soaked my concentration. I still plan on turning in though, I have too many ideas to waste.

Hope everyone except BFD and myself go on unhindered then.

Ohhhh...so sorry to hear that BFD!!!!
I think it's appropriate to accept late entries, especially if there are extenuating circumstances like laptop failures. A one week extension should still give judges time to do their stuff.

Just give me a few more hours! Remember I live in a different time zone than many people. I am like 6- to 8 hours behind Europe

No Liv, you don't have to tell us which prompts you picked until you post your story.

Don't everybody stress about the deadline too much. I'll give you a week's grace if you need it. If I hadn't posted a deadline though, probably nobody would have posted anything...lol

It turned out kind of short but the idea was to begin with. Other than that I think I covered my bases. I guess I'd rather write too little than gut new levels of mediocrity for SJ to suffer. My writing has the potential to be numbingly awful in the right conditions. I think I have better odds with fiction though so I hope you all enjoy it!

I'll try not to be more than a day late, but things are a bit cray-cray here >_<

I don't think anybody competing would be mad about late entries, we all kind of went down to the wire. Also I'm sure SJ needs time to score every story so no rush.

Any word from BFD or Greybeard? I'd like to read their stories even if they do come in late too.

just putting it out there if anyone wants to give me some constructive criticism on my story it might help me out. I know it's junk the last quarter of it but hey I'm always looking to improve my writing ability.

just putting it out there if anyone wants to give me some constructive criticism on my story it might help me out. I know it's junk the last quarter of it but hey I'm always looking to improve my writing ability.

The story has the basics. There's artful description of the setting, a narrative structure of steadily rising tension, and efficient use of words to keep the story concise.

The preface paragraph at the beginning could be rendered irrelevant with character actions that demonstrate who they are, what they do, and how they feel about each other. This would also eliminate some the of the "telling" used in the first few paragraphs. Having more character interactions that don't involve fighting would also help explain what these two characters mean to each other. Our fox friend was willing to die for mage girl. Does that mean he was in love with her?

A more complicated plot would have been more challenging to write, but would have tested characters in imaginative ways that could have surprised us readers.

I get the feeling this tale had a purpose other than just being a good story. Like it was made to show characters from a novel or something. I totally get why one would do this. I tried to do this at first, but ramming in that extra purpose damages story telling. It's ironic, but the best way to achieve purpose is to not think about it.
