I recommend Neil Gaiman's fantasy works, such as:

1. The Graveyard Book
2. American Gods
3. Coraline
4. Neverwhere
5. Stardust
6. Anansi Boys

But out of all Gaiman's work I liked his comic series SANDMAN the most.

Just about anything here and in any Fantasy section in a Bookshop. Too much good Fantasy - and too much Bad Fantasy :-(

If you like mystery-type humorous novels, check out the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. He's a wizard who works in Chicago. Hilarity ensues.

"Tales of the Dying Earth" by Jack Vance. Outstanding fantasy. Also, The Black Company Series by Glen Cook. It's the big inspiration for the Malazan books, and, honestly, it beats them in most points.

Definitely read Dune, one of my all time favourites. Others I love:

Hyperion by Dan Simmons
Melody and the Pier to Forever by Shawn Montaigne (off the beaten path, but awesome)
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
Winter of the World by Michael Scott Rohan (also off the beaten path, at least in America)
anything by Tanith Lee

Whenever someone comes into the shop and asks for a new fantasy series to read I always recommend the Tales of the Malazan by Steven Erikson
