yeah lightsabers are cool, but old swords are more mystical and elegant for me, that's why I also collect besides lightsabers, some swords of lord of the rings and one of Troy.

I wish I had more moolah. I have such a love of LotR, but don't even have an official sword just a bootleg Sting.

But then again, I am more into functionality than looks, so it works out. I would take my Confederate foot officer's sword over any stainless steel sword any day.

    stainless doesnt = crap.
its an excellent groups of alloys to make tools that are exposed to corrosive envrionments constanly, like kitchen knives and diving knives. AS well as being used for cook ware, and for things that need to be kept sterile.
is stainless good fro swords? Not really, but that doesnt mean its crap.

Yep - and properly heat-treated, stainless can be just fine for swords as well. It is true that the vast majority of the stainless swords out there are rubbish in terms of fuctionality, however, but they're mostly meant to be decorative pieces anyway.

yeah but wouldnt it be rather pricy to properly heat treat stainlss steels to be usable for swords? never mind the fact that its a pain the butt to work with. It has to be forged hotter than plain steels, and it eats of machine tool cutters like candy.
Its nasty stuff to work with. Im glad the place I work only raerly uses stainless steel and thats for small stuff.

I'll say it again - everybody please stay on topic. The title of this thread is "Your Favourite Sword/Weapon from LOTR."

There are other threads to discuss the various merits of stainless steel, and/or lightsabers. This isn't it. Further off topic posts after this second warning may be deleted.

    Hi Guys,

This is my first post here *Waves at everyone* :)

My favorite weapons from LOTR are:

Legolas' Mirkwood bow... I am currently having one custome made.

Legolas Knifes... they are just so eligante!

    Followed by Hadhafang.

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the Elven warrior sword too... starts to scrounge around thru the piles of dead bodies at helms deep... *Sheesh* all these dead elves, and not one sword left behind! Stupid prop master! :)

It's probably a tie between Gimili's weapons (I love those axes) and Aragorn's sword, Anduril.

I'm affraid Anduril is my all-time favourite sword. "Affraid" because it's mentioned so many times in similar forums that I could get sick of it in the nearby future...

    ...But not yet. :D

Unfortunately, it looks more like a Gondorian Infantry sword, or even like Denethor's. Check it out:
