I also know that my great great great ancestors who lived in Ireland when it was split up into small individual kingdoms were the rulers of one Clan and my name Maher was originally O'Meagher which is the name of the rulling clan.

Yes I know it really is sad that it had to happen in the first place, there were so many factors that lead up to such a great loss of life.

I do feel proud of him, because he must have known what to do as many of the 3rd class passengers never reached the top decks until it was too late, and for most of the women in the party to reach the boats they must have made their way on their own up the ship to reach the deck.

I also found out through my own research that relatives of crew killed in the disaster, not only recieved no compensation, but were forced to pay for loss of uniform.

My family originally came to North America in one of the first few boats after the Mayflower. We apparently breed like crazy and spread all over the place. My ancestors have been in every American war, all the way back to the Revolutionary War. Not only were they on both sides of the Civil War, a pair of them killed each other with bayonets.

Also, I'm very loosely related to John Travolta. He's something like my cousin eight times removed...

Eh, well, I might have used the wrong phrase there. It's something like if I traced a line through my family, I'd go through like 10 people to get to him. I'm pretty sure there are a few links by marriage only, so we're not even related by blood. :p

Claim to fame, eh? Well, I've been mentioned in a book, as my family and I all survived a close encounter with the '04 tsunami. And then I'm apparently closely related to Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson who wrote the Norwegian national anthem and is considered one of the "great four" Norwegian writers. (I never liked his works much, though. "^^)

Wow! I am almost afraid to post after reading all the above ...

I have no claim to fame ... and actually, I don't want to be famous ... but here's some mildly interesting things about me and the family:

I am very distantly related to John Adams.
My brother and his wife are both doctors. She was chief of staff at San Francisco General.
I am a published author, though not at all a best selling one.
My son was an extra in a movie with Robin Williams.
My cousin is the personal pilot of the owner of the Mexican soccer team "Chivas".

Actually, I kind of like my anonymous life.

Heh! You have me beat by one.
I'll sign your autograph book if you'll sign mine.

Once I was a telethon phone operator. I sat up front enough I was easily visible during the begging.

And once I was one the news! We were stuck when roads were closed in Oregon during a bad snow. My cousin recognized me when she was watching TV. And a day or two later I was recognized by a random lady while I was in truck stop.

It was the first time I ever had someone come up to me and say "Hey! Didn't I see you on TV?"

    My 5 seconds of fame!
