Finally got around to going to the bookstore and buying "A Game of Thrones". :D

So, is this really as good as reading WOT?

I loved the story. The only thing I didn't like as much is it was alot more raw than WoT was. The style takes a bit of getting used to. :)

I'm not going to be the typical Martin supporter and say that SOIAF > WOT (even though it is ^_^) but I will say that I wish there were 10 books in SOIAF instead. I don't think I could have gotten through WOT had I read SOIAF previously. Martin has set the new bar.

I wouldnt go that far, but i gotta say I can't ever remember enjoying a book this much, not even WoT (*gasp*). I went and picked up A Clash Of Kings today, even though I haven't finished A Game Of Thrones yet. I just had to get it so I could jump into it straight away :D

I'm about 400 pages into A Game of Thrones, and so far I have to say that I am enjoying it. I can't say that it is better than WoT, but I will say that since I finished WoT I've not read another book that I just didn't want to put down, until now . . . :D

I started a Clash of Kings. I thought the first one was outstanding. I like that Martin uses the viewpoints of many people, rather than just a few select individuals, it gives the story more depth.

Conversely, I've been an Ice&Fire fan for some time, and I've just started WoT.
It seems to start really slowly after the prologue, and everyone's names have at least one apostrophe in them, and I'm getting kind of restless. Also, the friend who gave me it described it as:
''like Tolkien...without any of the interesting bits''

Should I persevere, or does it stay much the same as it has through the first few chapters?
The change in writing style between aSoIaF and this is quite jarring. Maybe that's my problem.

Definently give WoT a go. Its amazing, granted its no ASOIAF, but its still very good, and totally worth your while.

WoT=Waste of Time, Patkun. The first 3 were ok, 4-6 were not very good, and 7-8 were horrible. Especially 8, I couldn't get more than 80 pages into it, and that was before I even read aSoIaF. Just save your time and money and skip it, you won't regret it.

Also, the first book was the best, because before than Jordan didn't use "The One Power" as a major copout device.

Jordan also has a problem with not killing off characters, even the villains are brought back later by the Dark Evil Lord of Doom and Bad Stuff. He almost killed a main character once(Mat), but then he brought him back 10 pages later. So you know that no characters are going to die, well, except for secondary characters, so there's no tension.
