What if the world was without magic since the renaissance? What if the only reason the world we have today even EXISTS is that wild magic has left the world? ...And is coming back in 2012??! How would that change things?

    I'm magic. :p

Science killed all magic (or what people once believed to be magic) long ago.

    ....

but seriously... I say if there's so many stories of old about magics then why couldn't it exist? I also think Elves/halflings etc used to exist (and maybe still do)

this thread reminds me of that movie 'The Flight of Dragons'

"There was time between the waning age of enchantment and the dawning age of logic when dragons flew the skies, free and unencumbered. Look down there Gorbash, my friend. On the top of the earth below us, confusion and chaos reign. All mankind is facing an epic choice: a world of magic or a world of science. Which will it be?"

"Man hears of the dragons invulnerable skin and lo, he makes armour, battleships, tanks! A fairy flies and, furiously jealous, man himself defies gravity with machines he will call airplanes. A magician looks into his crystal and sees and hears halfway across the world. "Ah," says man, "if only it could be so." And centuries from now he conjures up miracles, but calls them radio and television. If man is to surmount the insurmountable, there must always be magic to inspire him. The world needs magic! Magic cannot die..."

The world without magic is sad, because there exist such things as stupid customers and bank workers.

I have mixed opinions, I mean,
Where would all of the stories and movies come from? Surely they are based on something right?
On the other hand, i believe that it anything existed today, we would have found traces of it at least...

Your first argument is a fallacy, and as such not viable.

he's calling your argument a fallacy, that is, a statement which is false... though I personally don't see anything wrong with it, but i'm not exactly keen on participating in debates

It's a fallacy because it takes as granted that if something is talked of or even believed in, it exists, which is not necessarily true. For over one thousand years it was believed that the Earth was the center of the Universe, which was later revealed untrue.
