Absolutely. We all know it's the best movie ever, even if it doesn't make #1. But we want it to make it nevertheless!!

The problem is that ROTK requires it's viewers to be, in a word, intellegent. Anyone can watch titanic, especially if its a young, or any age, woman who just wants to see leo or a man who wants to see kate naked. thats the real reason anyone went to titanic, no one says it is a great movie. the real money maker though was that it had hardly any competition. it went 14 weeks at #1, but it only made $30 million each week in the u.s. if you add up all the movies on an average weekend, it's 40-50 mil. so if rotk keeps the competition down, it does have a chance. plus, it still isn't released in all the countries worldwide, though it is in all the biggest. btw, worldwide, its at about the $750 mil mark now!

and if we wanna, we can say it's all one story, so add their money together!

    p.s. i've been to it 8 times, now i'm into a once-a-week routine

It is sure to reach $1 billion. 2nd place is still impressive.

The Two Towers has somehow gotten to #3. It has beaten all of the Star Wars Movies. Return of the King will soon knock it down to #4 though.

Now in 2nd place with $985.9 million, and counting.
It will be the 2nd movie to ever break $1 billion.

It's the worldwide gross. You're thinking about domestic (USA and Canada), and that is only a piece of the pie.

If you add up all 3 movies, are they bigger than the StarWars then?

Well, Star Wars is bigger domestically but thank goodness it can't grasp the world like Frodo can!

In the end though, I think Star Wars will win out. Why? One word. Franchise. They can do so much more with Star Wars with all the action figures and games. And secondly, they can expand the Star Wars series while they can't do that too easily with Tolkien's works. Personally, I am glad. I don't want to see some of my favorite books commercialized like Star Wars and I definitely don't want to see another writer continue what Tolkien started.
