I am so pissed that this guys taking forever to finish his newest addition
I would certainly hope he won't die..
kind of a depressing thought there.
Perish the thought.
Though everyone is calling him the next Robert Jordan.
I dunno. I doubt it though. Now that Songs of the Dying Earth is finished and out, he should have a little more time to devote to Dance and ASoIaF in general.
no no no we don't want more dead starks - have you not heard the prophecy?
that each time you ask a stark must die?
meh GRRM is writing and all we have to do is wait - that is all - can't really do much more than that.
And the moral of the story is - don't be so long-winded. There's nothing you can write in ten books you couldn't just as easily write in three.
The part that really worries me is that GRRM supposedly cut AFFC in half, and the half that he left out was supposed to be ADWD. Doesn't that mean that he should have been, I don't know, 70% finished with ADWD when AFFC was published? Can you imagine how long it's going to take him to finish the 6th book!?
I'm secretly hoping that he is finishing the series now and just holding out on his publishers. Not likely.
he was going to have a 5 year gap between AFFC and ADWD however he decided that - in the end- he had to do away with this and thus most of hte written content had to be rewitten with younger characters (key ones being the children - now not mature)
So ADWD was nearly done, then he had to go back to the drawing board. As for taking time I really don't mind waiting (seriously we can't do much else unless someone has a cloning machine and a rapid growth pill so we can make more GRRMs )
Um, not sure if this thread was started as sort of a joke or serious, but this IS really a depressing thought...
When I was at the 2008 World Fantasy Convention he was there as a guest and I was told by a friend of mine that GRRM's friends ARE actually very worried about his health. As a health and fitness professional myself, people were joking that I should do a program for writers that I should call "Live to finish your Series!"
Right. Let's get on that.
I'm afraid so.
If only he weren't so fat, he'll get a heart attack and then it's byebye asoiaf >_<
Nah. It won't be bye bye.
I'm afraid we'll have continuations of it after the copyrights finally run out and even before then, we'll have authors that try to tell the same story, just badly.
Much like Tolkien.
Additionally, still waiting for that copyright to finally not be renewed so I can right a readable version of Lord of the Rings.
What a worrying thought.
Does anyone know just how many dooks Martin thinks the series will run into at all ??
he's sixty. Which is old, don't get me wrong, but its not THAT old.
I think he'll finish. Maybe.
I've heard seven, but I could be way off base.
That's what my fiance said when hearing about this topic.
He's still got at least a good ten years of writing left ahead of him as long as he takes even decent care of himself.
Yeah, he's a bigger guy, but that's not automatic danger of having cardiovascular issues.
Look on the bright side: by the time GRRM dies, Brandon Sanderson will be available to finish the series.
Never mind GRRM's mortality, what about his readers dying of boredom waiting?
Is it worse than the rest of the thread?
It was intended to be terrible to express my disappointment at the interminable lags between books. If I didn't like the series so much, I wouldn't have posted that.
There's a reason I didn't vote. ;P
But yes, you're right. :/ On the other hand, I'm rather looking forward to A Memory of Light - I've been trying to get over my distaste for 97% of the characters in the WoT series and have been attempting a reread.
