It's faster than getting help or digging your way out.

Only if you ignore every single precaution that makes it more than just wanton butchery. Digging would be quicker.

I doubt that highly. Plus you're more apt to have tools to cut and bandage than to dig.

Any tool that could be used in amputation could be used in digging, a knife could just loosen up the dirt enough in a short amouth of time to get the limb out.

and apt is the wrong word there.

    you knew what I meant.

If you loosen the dirt the boulder would just pack it in with its weight.

If you only dug closely around the limb

    1) To pack the dirt in the boulder would have to be small enough to only cover that area ergo small enough to move or lever aside.

    2) The area would not be affected by the weight of the boulder if the boulder was large enough to span over the area by a significant amount

both of your statements depend highly on the size of the boulder. If it was a tall but narrow boulder it would have a small enough area to pack in dirt and be heavy enough to not be moved by a makeshift lever.

But tall enough to be more easily toppled over, or at least pushed far enough over to free up the limb.

You know what, I'm done. if all I've done hasnt made you reconsider your negligent atitude towards serious life threatening medical procedures then its unlikely you will, If you try to hack someone up someday youre goign to kill them, and I've done what I can to stop you, their blood will be on your hands.

Thank you leading me on a pointless arguement over a small joke I made that you blew out of proportion.

    Cru, one name: Aron Ralston

Ray, unless you're in the same situation a doctor is your best friend in this world.

Now back on topic, I'd like to see Michael Moore in the White House :D

Michael moore would be terrible, he's good at complaining, not forming a feasable alternative solution.

Yes, the shattering of his bloated ego would be amusing, but in the current time of crisis its best to skip a funny president. People are tired of incompetent presidents.
