For me it was either Ursula Guin's Earthsea trilogy (a 4th then a 5th book were added later) or Tolkein's The Hobbit I can't remember which as it's too long ago :)

The Grimm Fairy Tales was what got me started way back when I was a little girl. That's some 60 years ago. Really. Now I write fantasy. I can't seem to get enough of it. If any of you are interested, I have my Ezekiel Mayhill series by AK Stein over at Amazon's Kindle.

Started with Lord of the Rings but the real trigger would have to be Raymond E Feists Riftwar Saga. Or wait... I remember I for some reason read the Sons of Krondor books before the Riftwar Saga in itself. Then started with Silverthorn, then Darkness at Sethanon and at last Magician. So I got the whole thing completely in the wrong order, but hey! Those combined books was what definitely triggered my love for fantasy books :D

    I should re-read those...

For me it was LotR, even though I didn't read any other fantasy book until years after LotR.

When I was a teenager I read LotR, Harry Potter, and many, many others.I basically read my way through the local library's Sci-Fi/fantasy section. I dont read as much as I used to, but most of what I read is still this genre.

Argh, I'm glad to have a quick, simple answer for this question. For me it was The Darren Shan Saga. :D
