It really is, I can't believe we're all slowly coming back. It's like a uhh... a dream of sorts
It is a pity that social media (and real life) destroyed forum's to a degree.
I always hoped forums would make a return. I still post on a few music and motorbike ones every now and then.
I love the sense of community from relatively like minded (i.e nutjobs lol) individuals.
I agree with you. The only reason I keep facebook is to keep in touch with my friends around the world.... most of whom I've made from TFF... semi-counterintuitive but hey, such is life lol.
eh, its simply easier on fb, fact of life
Keeping in touch is, definitely. But that's not the main function of a forum. I can't imagine how stupid hard it'd be to RP on fb lol. Or do many of the other things we do here.
agreed, have played a few play by posts with message services, not the best.
I am not sold on social media, it seems a bit faceless and fake, compared to sites like this. However it is good to keep in touch with normies!!
Normies, I LOVE THAT
I always miss forums. I used to surf them a lot when I was in high school. I was sort of addicted, I think, I was on a bunch of them, both Romanian and international ones. It's very sad that the forum community has come to this. I always hope/dream that the forum-ing concept might come back to life sometime. Facebook is a poor replacement. I don't rp on FB for instance, it just does not make any sense. Fortunately, there are still some forums where I can roleplay or else I roleplay via email. But I still wish forums would get back to what they once were. The bond, the community, and the entire forum experience... I miss those. I'm much more socially active in RL than I was a few years ago, I guess (used to be semi-antisocial) but forums have been a really important part of my life and I'm just a bad loser. I don't wanna let it go.
Don’t let it go! Fight with us!!
I have some really good memories from this place. I really hope people come back here, old members certainly but also new ones. It will be nice
I’ve been trying to promote the forum on Facebook through fantasy groups. I feel we really need new members as well as old members, if not more so. We need some fresh blood!
blood is good, yes yes, more blood.
Jim is all about the new guys joining
why yes, yes i am.|
new peeps bring new ideas, new books to read, new viewpoints on old ideas
Couldn’t agree more, the idea of new guys gets me super excited hahah
Honestly, in my experience moderating other forums, running Guilds/clans and social events, it's all a snowball effect. Whilst it can be a pain in the butt to get rolling, people tend to jump on the bandwagon. As long as just two or three people can keep a fluent, interesting conversation going, more will come. Event nights are always fun, too. I know a bunch of people (I'm not suggesting it, just using it as an example) that get together on Skype, Discord, Teamspeak and have movie nights. A few people from an old guild of mine also arranged a karaoke night, though a lot of people were far too shy to join in that. A lot of people also commented that they enjoyed being a part of a well structured system, where they weren't just another number, another cog in the wheel, but were seen and treated as an actual person. Being firm but fair was always a good thing, too.
All in all:
Lead by example.
Show your peons that you appreciate their good behaviour and wont tolerate anything but that.
Potential events that break the standard routine.
Make Mad Hatter a moderator
Getting the RPs started (which is in motion) would be pretty pretty good
getting the new members to get involved and dedicated to something, either an RP or a story or a project or something, something that takes a relatively long time so they can become attached to the forum, but not so long that they get repelled by the time-sink it would look like (and is, in reality)
1 and 2 for sure. I don't make friends easily but new blood is new blood. And of course I miss the oldies. I remember when I was new here..
