I dont know if many of you have heard, but apparently someone is intending to make a movie that is based in JRRT's middle earth. Yet, the story is new, and all of the characters are too, though it is easy to see where the names come from. Anyway, what Im trying to ask is, what do you all think of someone else trying to be tolkin? Just for refrence here is a summary of the plot.

"Ancanar is an original story written by director Sam. R. Balcomb and is set in the world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is about Ancanar a man who is the sole heir to the Rammoth Valley and its fortunes. He must search the Elven city where he hopes to find the redemption for himself and his family."

p.s. for those of you interested, here is the offical site, its offers a lot of great features and insight, but its not the middle earth that i have come to know.

It would be interesting to see/read, but it will never come close to Tolkiens work. Personally I don't care if people want to base stories in Tolkiens world, but for interests sake I would want to know what the Tolkien Estate would think.

If the Tolkien estate actually gave permission for him to do that then it should be half decent

I don't know. It's almost too weird. And however much this Balcomb man may love Tolkien's works, I have a hard time liking or respecting movies that come from another person's work. I much prefer something originial.

Thats true. He could come up with his own original fantasy. But it still will be interesting to see what he comes up with none the less.

It sounds good, very good, although I would like to see a bit more tolkien in there.
A dream of mine is to make a film based loosely around the rise and fall of numenor, so I'm pretty supportive of this one.

I object totally to making a movie like this. I say it's ok to write small stories based in Middle-Earth and not publish them, but to mess up the history of Middle-Earth on the scale of a major motion picture is just sick and wrong. Plus, people who haven't read the books and want to would get really confused.

If this movie ever even really gets made, I seriously doubt it will do more than go straight to video. I can't imagine a distributor would touch it.
