There are some phrases that we use in Greece that literally dont make any sense but have specific meanings and are very common and popular in everyday talk. And if you translate them in English they sound hilarious..

    Like:

"We did black eyes to see you" , when we havent seen someone for too long

"Are you working me?" , which is the same as "Are you kidding me?"

"He sleeps with the chickens", which means he sleeps too early..

"I've played them!", which means Im exhausted really tired, cant take it anymore etc...

"I came out of my clothes!", I got very, very angry...

"I dont know my blindness...", I know nothing...

"Something is at Devil's mother", Something is reaaaaally far...

"You owe me your horns!", You owe me too much...

    and so on...

Any phrases from where you are coming from?

Oh, I just thought of some :D
Well-what-da-ya-know -sometimes an expression of surprise; normally a friendly phrase used to open a conversation.

D!ck stickers - mens brief style bathers.

Few sandwiches short of a picnic - slow witted, not all there in the head department.

Spit the dummy - get very upset about something.

Down the road - it's a term indicating distance, but it could be anything, used like, "ahh that's just down the road mate" could be a few hundred meters, or a few km's >.>

Mad as a cut snake - crazy. :)D)

Up sh*t creek without a paddle- in trouble, normally serious trouble

Get the shits - to get angry

Oi! Settle down, all three of you, if you don't have something CONSTRUCTIVE TO THE THREAD TO SAY, THEN DON'T POST!
This is GENERAL TALK not SPAM

    *sigh*

    Anyway, more phrases....
Dole Bludger - A lazy person on social/welfare assistance (tends to be a badge of honour in some cases)
    Hard yakka - Hard work
    Idiot Box - tv
Map of Tassie - Umm, not sure I should say this one but, hmm, actually, I think I won't >.>
Never never - Centre of Oz
    Oz - Australia (no, really)
