By now, you all know that RotK got 11 nominations for the Academy Awards. But what nominations do you think were missing?

    • Supporting Actor - Sean Astin!!! He definitely deserved at the very least a nomination!
    • Best Actor - Viggo or Ian. They both did an amazing job.
    • Best Supporting Actress - Miranda Otto probably would and should have been nominated if they had kept the Houses of Healing in the theatrical cut.
    • Cinematography - If FotR got it, why not RotK?

Yeah, it's unfair that it got no nomination for the actors.

Grrr... No acting nominations! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!?!?!? They can nominate Tim Robbins (can you believe it, Tim Robbins?!) and not Sean Astin? Unbelievable. Those academy people really don't like this movie much to they? I don't understand exactly what they have against it other than the fact that it wasn't a true "Hollywood" movie.

i think it would have been better for RotK to get 5 nominations(all important) than to get 10 unimportant nominations! this was Viggo's, Sean's, Miranda's, and even Elijah's year to get nominated. i would even be happy if ian (who has already had 1 nomination) got a nomination! but overall, i am happy peter jackson was nominated for best director.

I think the fact that it isn't a true 'hollywood' movie is the sole reason why they are against it.

I totally agree Radagast, I was just saying that to someone. Hollywood is kind of insular. I think this is a threat to them and they will give the minimum they can get away with, however this should still be a lot, maybe just not as much as it deserves. A thought - is Chris Lee allowed to vote for a movie he was in? Just wondered.

I really wanted Sean Astin to get nominated, because his performance really touched me. And of course McKellen;s perforance was spectacular.

I would definately say that Sean Astin deserved a nomination hands down! I also think sound editing was overlooked by the academy.

For me, the biggest disappointment is Cinematography! The beacon scene alone is worth that award in my opinion!

Totally agree with everything previously stated. From what ive seen these are the best performances in any movie this year! Very dissapointing they didnt get nominated. Well everyone cross your fingers and hope this is the year peter jackson gets best director, and LOTR gets best picture of the year.

    I suppose that it true.

Sad how people will shun a movie simply because of where it was made and who made it. One thing I guarantee: if LOTR had had some big name Hollywood actors in it, then acting nominations would have been awarded. That's just the game those people play. It irks me, but I won't let them get under my skin too much...

Big name actors!?!?! As far as I know, Liv Tyler, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin and Ian McKellen are all A list actors. And as for awards, Cinematogrophy, sound editting, and best male actor. (Ian McKellen, or surprise! Andy Serkis.)

Before LOTR Ian McKellen was basically known as a stage actor. Elijah Wood was really only a child star. (Really he was what, 17 or so when they started filming?) Sean Astin had been around, but not in any big movies. Same with Liv Tyler. No big names like Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson, Russell Crowe, etc.....

Ya. I'm extremely glad they didn't pick any big names like the ones I mentioned. *shudders* Can you imagine, Kate Hudson as Eowyn, Julia Roberts as Arwen, and Russell Crowe as Aragorn? *feels faint* That would have so ruined the movie....

On the major actors, Christopher Lee has been in more movies than any other actor! Over 300! But he wasn't in RotK...

Anyway, I think I figured out why RotK didn't get Cinematography! Master & Commander had 10 nominations, mostly the same categories as RotK. If you've seen it, you know it deserves at least a few Oscars (including Paul Bettany for Best Supporting Actor); it was a great film. The Academy knew that RotK was going to beat M&C in all its categories, so they didn't nominate RotK for Cinematography, so that way M&C can at least win one Oscar.

The one nomination that i wish Last Samurai got was best cinematography. If any of you have seen than film, the cinematography is incredible.

Sorry, that was kind of off the subject, but i had to write it down before i forgot.
