what do you think happended to strider's ranger sword after he got anduril???
I was actually wondering the same thing, maybe he left it behind, gave it to a random soldier or just kept it as a momento. Who knows, but it is my fovorite sword of all time.
yes, i agree with you and the sword is definantly the most amazing and practical of all the lotr swords.
Oops wrong place
I always wondered that, it did seem a bit odd. Then again they didn't really have to pay attention to that detail, as far as the movie, goes because half of the people who went to see it were only going for Orlando Bloom. I did like Strider's sword a bit better though.
I bet Elrond took it back to Rivendell with him after Anduril was presented to him.
I'd say he would have kept it and put it on his horse as a back up weapon that would have been my logical choice anyway.
yea both of you might be right, but i think elrond might have taken the sword to rivendell at least for safekeeping and then gave it back to aragorn after the war of the ring, because you never saw the sword after elrond brought anduril, not even on his aragorn's horse. but no one can be certain?
Elrond taking it back to Rivendell is probably the most likely theory, I wish I could know for certain though. I wonder which one Aragorn preferred to fight with, Anduril or his original sword.
it is a 2h sword...... not practical for most frontline fighters. however to a ranger.....
my thought is that one of the dunedain was given it.....
possibly by the king himself
i personally think that aragorn preferred to use his ranger sword over anduril, mainly because of the sword's practical size. also aragorn is more familiar with his ranger sword because we know that he carried that sword for at least 50 years since he is around 83 years old. (based more on the movie)
I also think Elrond might have taken it back to Rivendell. There is also a chance he kept it, maybe he'll give it to his child or something.
I know where it is. On my wall on a plaque.
Aragorn only had one sword. He carried it broken until it was was made anew in The Fellowship of the Ring.
Or am I the only one who read the books?
So, then wouldn't you just assume we are talking about the movies then? Or are we the only ones who watched the movies?
Oh, I do assume you're talking about the movies. I just wanted to remind people that that isn't how it happened in the original.
Most of us have read the original books. Some people had never read the books until their interest was sparked by the movies.
Feeling the need "to remind people" just makes you come across as "snobby".
I'm with Greybeard on this one.
Pointing out the right answer rather than the movie 'corrupted' version is not snobbery
Look at the OP's post, and put it into context. The OP is clearly talking about the movie, because in the book a "ranger sword" was never mentioned.
This isn't the literature nor the movie section of the board; it's the weaponry section. If you want to debate book vs movie points, then that should be brought up in one of those sections.
The thread is entitled 'what happened to strider's sword?' not a heading which suggests or invites a discussion over the qualities or design of the film prop. This begs the question why is this thread in the weaponry section at all if there's no discussion on it (the sword)? The only reference to it's design seems to be JIM's 'It's a 2h sword'.
*shrugs* not that it really matters
Edit: Picture of sword in question
