As we all now after the first age when Morgoth was taken prisoner, Maedhros and Maglor tried to steal the Silmarills from Eonwë's encampment to forfill their oath. Things didn't work out the way they planned and Maedhros soon found himself in a deep lava-pit and perished. Tolkien wasn't quite as specific about Maglors fate. All he said is that Maglor wandered the seaside singing songs. What do you all think about this?

Well, I doubt he made it into the Third Age. Most likely stuck around, as Tolkien said, singing songs and probably met some unfortuate fate. He probably stayed low.

    An exerpt from the EoA

Legend says that he still wanders the shores of the World, singing laments for his despair and regret.

I don't know. If he died, I would like to have an idea when or how
but as I said, Tolkien didn't say much about his faith so it's just speculation............

My guess is that he died when the western part of Middle-Earth was lost. He was on the western coast when he cast the Silmaril into the waters, and he wandered those coasts till the end of his days. But I do believ that was before the flooding that destroyed everything west of the Blue Mountains. Correct me if I'm wrong...

That really makes some sense but the way Tolkien wrote about his last acts raises the idea that he wandered the shores for a very long time.

This is probably one of the most ridiculous things I've ever considered, but Tom sings quite a bit, doesn't he?

Maglor be Tom bombadil not possible. Elrond said that tom was " oldest and fatherless" besides he is described as being bearded short and fat. I agree with the theory that he drowned in the flooding but if tolkien never said that leaves a mystery and thats what makes it special.

All we know for sure about Maglor's fate is from the closing lines of The Silmarillion, where we're told only that '...he came never back among the people of the Elves' (24, Of the Voyage of Eärendil and the War of Wrath).

boy it seems like a lot of people are looking for explanations for tom bombadil, lol. i would say that maglor didnt make it past the first age for two reasons, of course the changing of the coasts where he was, second he was in a lot of pain and grief so i imagine he would have cast himself into the ocean soon after the silmaril. as for the comment that he could be heard singing long after, well i look at that like the place where ungoliant attacked melkor and his yells remained (forgive me i dont remember the name of the place) and how they said you could hear nimrodel singing in the nimrodel river.

good point. probably true, but I think I like the idea that spent ages roaming world's coasts while singing better. If it weren't for that concept, LoTR/Baywatch fanfiction stories like 'maglor meets Mitch Buchannon''' would never have been written. And you tell me: what would the world be without those?
