But I do agree with you it'd be nice to have it come with the set, though I'm not sure it'd be as nice or as big. And I do like my Argonath set, which far as I know isn't available in any other form, so I'm quite happy with what came with FOTR :)

I might eventually buy the mini Shards though, 'coz I do like the statue holding the shards, and to compliment its bigger counterpart.

Blue all the way. If it was anything else I would be very disappointed.

I know it is going to be blue. Blue's good, but I also like white.

Return of the King probably should have been black because the colors of Gondor are black and silver. I think blue was chosen because blue is a more royal color than black, and the focus was on Aragorn becoming king. Plus, I don't think black would have looked as good as blue.

Black might actually look cool... with silver accents, or perhaps using white as the background color as isengard111 suggests...

But too bad the marketing people at New Line chose blue, though I actualyl also like that

Not to beat a dead issue, but no one has commented on this - the colors correspond with the book series published by Houghton Mifflin (illustrated by Alan Lee). The series I am talking about has the Hobbit included. The funny thing however is that New Line messed up!

    The Hobbit is orange

    The FoTR is blue

    The TTT is red

    The RoTK is GREEN!!!!!!!

    Woops!

I got the big red book and the not-so-big green book, so I don't know what you're talking about. But if New Line did correspond to the series by Houghton, then they screwed up three times.

The series that we are referring to comes in 4 volumes (Hobbit, FoTR, TTT, RoTK). It would appear to me that these served as the inspiration for the colors used on the packaging. I know what you are referring to - the one volume edition? The 4 volume edition has the artwork of Alan Lee on the box and the covers of the books (great paintings of Rivendell, Isengard after the Ents are through with it, and the battle of the Pellenor fields).

Green is perfect for Fellowship. Blue would not have worked very well.

I wouldn't have minded blue for Two Towers. I don't have any complaints.

Blue is final. Does it reallly matter all that much? They are going to look VERY nice beside each other...

Does anyone know if I can still get a hold of the special FoTR EE... with the two bookends?

I don't know about where you live, but here Silicon Valley, Southern side of the San Francisco Bay, the Suncoast stores in the malls still have a set or two of the FOTR EE set with the Agornath bookends; so do many Blockbusters. They (the Suncoasts and Blockbusters) all also have the TTT EE with Gollum set.

I'd try Suncoast (or any other chain video store or places like Best Buy or something), since they put their sets inside the store... for Blockbusters they put the sets right at the window and consequently those sets have been exposed to Sunlight for all these past two years (and that's A LOT of sun here in California)... I saw one and was actually shocked a bit to see a gift set EE DVD at Blockbuster with blue packaging... for a few seconds thought somehow they had a dumy ROTK EE set there... but of course, it was just the discoloring of the green box of the FOTR set...

Hahaha, I'll keep an eye out for them at blockbuster and places... thanks. It's a problem because when me and my brother move away, we are both going to want our own copy of each DVD... a problem with all of our dvds infact.
