I'm planning to make LotR movie poster/weapons displays, and I'd like to know if anyone knows the approximate thickness of the LotR sword hilts.

So far, I've found that Gimli's axe head is 3/4" (thanks, CBSwords ;) ), but that's all I can find online. I'd like to know, so I know how deep to make my display shadowbox.

I've linked a GIF of the rough plans, so you can see what I'm getting at making. Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to TFF, Brian!

For Andúril, you will need a good 2.00", for the deepest part of the cross-guard. I'm not sure how you want to work out the crossing on the other displays, though. I do know Sting has a 1.00" depth.

I like what you're going for, there.
Sting seems to be the "star sword" of TFotR. I think Herugrim would be my choice for TTT. Andúril for RotK? Oh, definitely!

Wow, 2.0"! I assumed Gimli's axe would be the thickest at 3/4", but it appears I was way off... thanks for the help.

RotK: Agreed, Anduril, like no other.
TTT: Actually, that's not a bad Idea. Maybe Herugrim and Glamdring together would be best?
TFotR: ...and the weapons of the fellowship go here.

Of course, the ultimate display for Sting should come in 2009.

Personally, I'm still torn over Herugrim, simply because Theoden isn't the same go-get-em character until the 3rd movie. The movie portrayal is more defeated after his "rebirth," compared to the Theoden I pictured.

These displays are getting heavier by the paragraph.

The LFK hilts are 27 millimeters "deep" (1.06").
    Their blades 5 millimeters (0.2").

Say, I was looking at the posters you chose....
Except for the TTT one, you have teaser posters. Have you considered the TTT teaser? Or the other theatrical posters?
    (Just thinking out loud....)
