Nah I don't think I will :D I enjoyed the first 3 or 4 Shannara books then (in my opinion) they got a bit repetitive so I didn't bother with any more, in fact I gave the whole lot to my local charity shop ;)

I await your 'wrath' with mild amusement ~ if I hear loads of howls of protest about my views on the Shannara books I might wander down to the library and give them another go but I'm in no great rush ....

    I back you up :D
And Shannara isn't even anything like LOTR! HAIL TERRY BROOKS!!!
By the power of the Sword of Shannara, Druid magic, the Elfstones, the Black Elfstone, the Rukh Staff, the Loden, and any other Shannara magic I have missed out - the world will see the light and worship the Master!
By the Master, I mean Terry Brooks, not Brona :D

Stardust is good for younger readers (or for girls who still like fairy tales ;)), but I'm not sure if you'd like it. I absolutely adored "American Gods", and Neverwhere's pretty good too, but... American Gods is a must-read. ^^

@ Warlock Lord: May I ask what other authors you have read to judge Brooks against. I have nothing against Brooks but I find my opinion of authors has changed since I have read a wider range of books. The first series I ever read was the Rift War series and I thought Feist was the best fantasy Author ever. I have now reviewed that opinion after reading 100's of other authors.

I'm glad you like it, I was just curious. I don't expect everyone to have the same favourite book/series. unlike some people. :)

Just a light hearted joke at your repeated suggestion that Brooks is the God of fantasy. No offence intended. :) Well I guess you have achieved your goal, I have just started reading The Sword of Shanara. I have had the first three in my bookcase for a couple of years and I thought I should give them a shot.

There are three reasons that Brooks is not the God of Fantasy

    1. He's not Goodkind, who IS the God of Fantasy
    2. He's not Pratchett, who is the fantasy equivalent of all the prophets and popes rolled into one
    3. His writing is okay, it's mildly entertaining, but it's NOTHING SPECIAL. I have seen nothing individual or defining about Brooks (note that I've only read the Landover series; somebody please tell me if the others are better). He's just an author.

@ Elladan: For some reason, I thought you would. :D

All right, people, I think it's time to cut out the "This author is God of Fantasy" without a smiley. Yes, I'm one of the people who always say that GRRM is the god of epic fantasy ;P... but note that I always use a smiley to indicate that it's my own opinion, and that it's meant in good fun. People are likely to get heated over it, and it's better to include a smiley to prevent an argument.

@ Clouded_perception: I happen to disagree with your first statement - I've read Goodkind, and I didn't mind the first two books, but after that, I was unable to enjoy the rest (just so you know, I do NOT make judgements on authors without reading the entire series first.). I've found that I much prefer other authors, especially because I hate cliched/black-white books. But that's just my personal opinion. :)

Might I ask if you've read George R R Martin, or maybe Sara Douglass?

For some reason I can't help but feel that the only reason that makes any sense is the last one, which isn't even very good...

Bought American Gods & Neverwhere ~ should get them for the weekend ~ I'll let you know what I thought of them although they'll be in a queue as I've a reading backlog :D

I lasted slightly longer that the two ~ I think I enjoyed up to the fourth but I also thought they were a bit *yawn* after that :)

Possibly ~ I like GOOD books not the average ones that Brooks churns out :D :D

Hehe, do tell me what you thought of them later. :D

And yes, there were some characters I continued to like throughout the series (I admit that I love the Mord-Sith) but the plotline just sorta got... bleah, lol. Although I don't believe I've read his latest book... I'll have to attend to that later.

As for your last comment: :D LOL. Burn.
