Who was your favorite Valar/Maiar in the Silmarillion and why?
Feel free to list more than one.
    Mine were:
    1) Nienna, for her compassion and sorrow for all those who suffered,
    2) Olorin/Gandalf (it's a fairly strong theory that Gandarl was Olorin) because he was Nienna's "disciple"
    3) Varda, because she is wise and powerful, and watches over the Elves.

I'd go with Gandalf too, but for the Valar I'd pick Mandos. He's a cool mysterious character.

Mandos rocks. Melian the Maia is cool as well. Tulkas, though, got to love him.

Yep, Mandos. He's mysterious, which makes him very interesting. And... if I knew how to express it I'd mention more reasons.
And Varda. I love the stars... her creation!

lol, they're all cool. When you're an ultra-powerful spirit-type being, you can't be anything but cool. :D

Olorin, Sauron, Curumo and Melian are all amazing Maia, but my favourite Valar are Mandos, Varda, and Manwe and Ulmo.

Orome I really admire, the vision of some angry god running about on a horse and slaying his enemies... Sends chill down the old vertebrae. -.-

I liked Manwe too, but there wasn't enough about him in the Silmarillion.

As for Maiar, I liked Gothmog and Olorin. It would've been incredible to see these two fights, although Gandalf had trouble enough fighting a normal Balrog.
