Havent started a thread in a while so heres one.

We all pick up facts every day, mostly we never use them. Well heres a vent for every bit of trivia you have, any old useless fact that you have about anything, post it here and widen the knowledge of everyone who reads it.

Heres one of mine to start with:

The biggest ant colony in the world stretches from spain, up through germany and all the way to italy, mostly underground. And due to the hive mentality of ants, if you took one from each end, they would instantly recognise eachother.

    There, useless isnt it?

People who damage the area in the left hemisphere of their brain know as the Wernicke area can speak but cannot write or comprehend language spoken to them while people with damage to the Broca area in the left hemispere cannot speak but can still write and understand those speaking to you. Hence the condition Broca's and Wernike's Aphasia.

Also, damage to the right side of your brain affilicts motor movement in the left side of your body while damage to the left side of the brain afflicts it in the right side of your body.

    Pretty boring and worthless eh?

Sharks and rays are the only animals known to man that don't get cancer. Scientists believe this has something to do with the fact that they don't have bones, but cartilage.

see, we learn something new every day, i live by that saying.

Did you know that there is a special oil that has the same refractive index as glass. This means if you had a big vat of it and put a glass object in, it would appear invisible.

I can honestly say i will never have a practical need for that knowledge in my life, unless attacked by some giant coral monster (I can always dream).

Did you know scorpions glow bright blue under ultraviolet lights, and the biggest colony of scorpions in the world is in, not africa, nor south america, but england (kent of be precice).

I was reading this artical in a magazine once and after the chrimean war each county had to sign a declarmation agreeing to the peace, but the declarmation never got to one county so this tiny county in england is still officially at war with the chrimeans

One legend claims stealing someone's shadow (by measuring it against a wall and driving a nail through its head) can turn the victim into a vampire.

heh I should test that theory

Okay, this is an old-wives-tale but it is true on occasion.

If you take a blunt razor blade and leave it out in the moonlight all night, by morning it will be sharp.

This IS TRUE, Moonlight is specially polarised (reflected sunlight), and polarised light stimulates crystal growth, and that maked the razor sharp as metal has a crystaline structure.

    This one's good!

Crossing one's fingers is a way of secretly making the sign of the Cross. It was started by early Christians to ask for divine assistance without attracting the attention of pagans.

This is for all the girls out there; its coming up to Valentines Day:

One superstition says that if a girl leaves her house early on Valentine's Day and the first person she meets is a man, then she will be married within three months.

Your middle two fingers share the same tendon, which mean if you put all your fingers and thumbs together (tip to tip) and hold you middle fingers (the ones next to your index fingers) knuckle to knuckle (the knuckle next along from the one that joints your fingers to your hands), you can part all your fingers apart from the one that shares the tendon, which should be impossible to move apart.

In the Durango desert, in Mexico, there's a creepy spot called the "Zone of Silence." You can't pick up clear TV or radio signals. And locals say fireballs sometimes appear in the sky.

Are you serious?! That might even be a useful fact! Can you post or PM me some info or links to info about it? I wonder if it works on knives, too.
Hey! There's a full moon tonight! Uh-oh, maybe it's not such a good idea- dew leads to rust.
