Discussion in 'Questions' started by Normf, May 26, 2009.
I think the point is a few people think it should be taken down. Relax. Discussion in progress.
I think the fangirls should go get dazzled someplace other than this thread. I have already come to terms with the lack of interest in actual fantasy on these boards. But Twilight is just crossing the line. I'm taking this up higher, much higher, like to the author of Twilight higher.
Stephenie Meyer is an AMAZING writer. Have you read her books?
(and I'm not getting hot-headed lol if thats how it looks)
There's no denying that Meyer is a talented writer. That's not the issue at the heart of this discussion. The issue is that some people don't view the books as fantasy and have questions and concerns about a Fantasy Forum having, what some think, isn't fantasy on it.
That being said. I stand by my previous statement.
She isn't that amazing. I've read a few pages after being screamed at by my sister, and all I can say is that she's ok.
I haven't read the books, but the impression I get is romance with vampires and werewolves. It's bloody romance.
I think part of the problem is that it's not really a developed world worthy of that part of the forum. Look at the other ones on there: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Narnia. All of those are well developed worlds with a defined feel, history, cultures, everything. Twilight does not have that. For that matter, neither does Harry Potter. I think both of those should be in the Books section, but lucky for them it's not my opinion that matters.
I'll have to respectfully disagree. It's that or have a ranting screaming fit over it.
I agree, I have been to Washington state. It is most deffinately not developed!
I open up the History House and you guys are still whining like girls over Twilight?
The reason it is in the worlds section is there is both movie and book discussion on the subject. Just like the other threads in Fantasy Worlds. Fan girls swooning over handsome characters happens in all those sections. I still want a LOTR elf of my own to play with. :humper:
They secretly love it and arent dealing with it well.
*flips long blond hair back and gently strokes his pointy ears*
I get that alot.
Meh, I'm not whining, just stating my opinion. It makes sense that there's a Twilight section, there are millions of fans and it's the hot new shit right now. I only object to the placement of the section. If there wasn't one, general books would be flooded with Twilight threads, and nobody wants that.
I'm sure if Twilight was written by a man and it was about half naked sex crazed porno star lookin female vampires makin out with each other you men would love it.
This tells you all you need to know about Twilight fans. Just be glad there's the Historians' House to escape to.
yes because you can judge a fan of something just by them being a fan
You can certainly judge fans by the emphasis they put on actors' looks. Much as it pains me to admit it, I'm forced to agree with darkfox about this...
lol, thanks Symmetry..........I think
AmyLynn...you really shouldn't take a discussion on a novel you like so personally. It's just a point of view and everyone's is entitled to have one. Meyer is a talented writer, I like Vampires...but the way it was delievered isn't my cup of tea.
The book was never written for guys to like, though some do. It was written for girls. It's an inescapable fact. Boys and Girls are different and video games are marketed largely for boys (DOA Volleyball for example) and books are marketed largely for girls, Twilight being a prime example.
That being said, it's fiction. I wouldn't view it as fantasy any more than I considered "The Lost Boys", or "The Goonies" fantasy. It's not even in the fantasy aisle at any book store I've seen it in. It's either in horror or general fiction. I get that there's a demand for it and whatnot, but I personally don't think it belongs in the fantasy section.
Actually, I HAVE seen things like this, and I find it to be worse than Twilight. Stupid smutty trash is a whole level of suck below sparkly vampires. When I read a book, I want to be entertained intellectually. If I want to get my rocks off, there's tons of porn on the internet. So, yeah, you're a bit wrong there.
Also, darkfox, I love your sig. Rep'd
I don't take this personally. I'll never ever meet any of you and I don't really care what you say about twilight. Like you said everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I'm putting my opinion out there.
You may not find it fantasy but someone must if they lump it in with Harry Potter.
Good for you, you've got a leg up on the average internet user if you've discovered that what people say on the internet doesn't really matter.
And to kill this debate, I shall go to the supreme source on what defines fantasy: the dictionary.
Note the bolded bit. I think Twilight qualifies.
That's just sad and scary at once.
Separate names with a comma.
