Ok serious question. Why is there a twilight section?

I only ask this because i don't see how it is fantasy. What fantasy elements does it have? Vampires and werewolves... I don't really consider that fantasy more, folklore/horror. And even if it was, why twilight? When there are many other werewolf and vampire worlds/books/movies. Why have an entire section dedicated to it?

What do you picture when you think of fantasy? I think fantasy is a very broad genre with many subgenres... But i don't see twilight in there.

Now i know this is a ranty type question, but it is more question than rant. And sorry if i look like a dick. I just don't see why something that i personaly think is absolutely rubbish and not fantasy at all, has it's own section in a fantasy forum.

Probably because it's being billed as the "new Harry Potter"

but ya. anything Vampires or Werewolves gets tossed into fantasy. which is odd because at one time they were considered horror. i guess once Anne Rice started putting them into frocks they became sex objects instead of undead blood drinkers. i like my vampires John Carpenter style...very horror oriented.

Twilight is classified as dark fantasy (as are most not-particularly-horror books, involving vampires, werewolves and the like).

The section's there because there was a request for it given the added interest with the film franchise. Meyer was also, I believe, the biggest selling author in 2008 :)

I suppose anything where you have to suspend your view of reality (character races or setting), is fantasy.

Cheers for the feedback, but i would honestly classify dark fantasy as, fantasy with horror. Now Twilight doesn't really have the horror, or the fantasy.

lol I don't disagree, but I suppose some would argue that vampires are horror, even though the main ones are resisting their natural urge to drain Bella's (& other humans') veins.

    Yea true that.

But what i find funny is that section is for fantasy worlds, and out of all the worlds they could have put up, Midkemia, the hyborian age, etc... They put up something like Twilight. Seriously, wtf!

seriously we had to put the raving Twilight fans somewhere - and they didn't like the idea of Bin as a section title;)

As for Fantasy - there is more to fantasy than the middle ages ;)

Yes, I do believe that section was created to keep all the crazy Twilight ravings away from the rest of the forum. :D It was quite bad for a while...

I'm fairly sure it was put there (in addition to the reasons given above :)) because it had both film & book

I repeat. There are so many proper fantasy worlds created by most excellent authors that deserve a spot there in the 'worlds' section more than twilight. I think a guild for Twilight fans would be sufficent.

Fantasy is a fairly broad paintbrush anyway. So I guess I understand. Putting them in the Bin might be a little insulting.

I would like to put this question forward.

Is a world where Paris Hilton is looked up to a Fantasy world? Because I often have to suspend my views on reality to understand that one.

Normf there are enough fantasy worlds to drown TFF in different sections - so TFF tends to just respond to popular ones in the community - its not to say some are better/worse than others but more just to reflect the user base of TFF.

*waves sparkly Edward plushy in Normf's face* (I think every female TFFer would sort of, in a way, like a sparkly boyf with vampirish, but not blood-thirsty tendencies. -At least until one comes to realise how frigging uncomfortable someone with a strong marble-resemblance would be to cuddle. It's in our nature. I admit to it, even though I've not posted one single post in the Twilight section since November.)

I know that was spam. I simply could not resist.

I hate Twilight. It just seems like a stupid concept to me. My idea of a vampire comes from Bram Stoker's Dracula, not from some weird mushy "dark fantasy" novel. I am really frustrated because I don't want to read about sex object, tortured teenage vampires who can't have a human love because of their oh-so angsty nature. If more people would write decent novels instead of marketable vampire trash, then I'm sure many readers would be very happy. (sorry about the rant.)

I adore Stoker's Dracula. It's not that. I don't relate Twilight to Stoker's masterpiece at all. Twilight is just the sort of mushy brain-dead stuff that's fun to read once, when you're feeling really fed up with what you're supposed to be doing.

I refused to watch the film though, as there was no way that it could be any good.

Twilight is a novel for teenage aingst ridden girls who cry when boys don't return their affections. So in other words...a rather LARGE section of the teenage reading audience. most teenage boys play video games or comic books, or at least I did. maybe i'm weird.

This thread is so childish it's not worth taking stock in.
