Since there are members from around the world in the forum, I thought we should have a thread where someone could ask for a translation.

For example I would like to know how "Ill see you maybe" is in german. I google translated it but Im not sure if the translation is correct... soo any help? :p

Not bad Tur. I'd take that ^^
I think I'd need to know the context. Maybe... "Vielleicht bis später" but that would be "later, maybe"

What is "I hate Merkel and the f*cking european government" in greek? (And don't you use greek letters, I can't read those)

Say anything in Greek and it means that. How's things in New South Germany Sevi?

How about "Auf wiedersehen?" Just a question. I don't know if I should add Vielleicht in there or not...

hmmm no. I'm not sure what sevi exactly want to say with that, but auf wiedersehen is probably only a small part of "I'll see you maybe"

Yeah, but it's basically the same as "bis später." I think that if you're talking about I'll see you maybe sometime, saying this to somebody you haven't seen for a while, would be more like "Vielleicht sehen wir uns?", as Tur rightly said.

I never eeeever said I hated Germans!! I hate politicians. Politicians dont have a nationality. They suck everywhere.

I meant it like a question. The full sentence would be something like "Will I see you later, maybe?"

Also "Miso tin Merkel ke tin g*mimeni evropaiki kivernesi" (where "i" is pronounced like the i from the word "is", and "e" is pronounced like the e from the word "less", and *=a >.>)

Only yesterday Cyllíeth did some foreign language studies when she sent me a website about curses and insults in many different languages. This might be interesting for you guys (as insults are always the most interesting thing to learn about a foreign language), the site is YouSwear.com. The only problem with it is that lots of the swearwords are written the way they are pronounced (probably written by/for people who don't know the IPA), which - at least for me - sometimes made the pronunciation even more difficult. :p

so i and e are pronounced as they are in german :D thanks

If it's a question then: Sehen wir uns vielleicht später? // or: Sehen wir uns später vielleicht?

Btw very useful site although the pronounciation indeed seems really difficult....

That doesn't seem to me as a proper translation. You should remember about the emotional weight of the word/phrase before translating it, Druid. Otherwise it's not a translation but a bunch of more or less accurate synonims.

He just asked for 'jeune fille' so I gave him the first, correct one; then added some humorous ones.

Only the first one is true, the others can be subjective choices; I don't believe in a few of them.

@RW: You should know DL's brand of humour by now. If he can talk abt some random death being remembered for the beer, then it's a very damned sure sign.
@DL: For some weird reason, I'm starting to wonder when I'll have enough money to take a holiday trip to France. Preferably Paris. :p

    Paris? It's quite nice.

You should go to the Arche de Triomphe and see how dangerous the road there is. Imagine a roundabout with 3 to 6 lanes without markings, basically the meeting point of many big roads.
