My tattoo, if I were brave enough, would be an elvish design down my backbone, but I'm not that brave. One that's more feasible, a great poem was translated into Sindarin, so I'd use a piece of that on my lower back:

Davo enni ú-dired mellyn bo dagorlad cuil, dân tired i vellas nín.
Let me look not for allies in life’s battlefield, but to my own strength.

    or

Davo enni ú-ganed an nared en-naeg nín, dân i ‘ûr orthored han.
Let me beg not for the stilling of my pain, but for the heart to conquer it.

    Part of this poem:

    Prayer for Courage

Let me pray not to be sheltered from dangers, but to be fearless in facing them.

Let me beg not for the stilling of my pain, but for the heart to conquer it.

Let me look not for allies in life’s battlefield, but to my own strength.

Let me crave not in anxious fear to be saved, but hope for the patience to win my freedom.

    Grant me that I may not be a coward, feeling your mercy in my success alone;

But let me find the grasp of your hand in failure.

Umm, it was translated by one of the students at The Council of Elrond...ah ha! Here it is:

    Original poem by Rabindranath Tagore

Sindarin translation by Iavas, October 2003

Never heard of the author, wonder if they did anything else...

Here's the sindarin, english, and literal translation:

    Hered a Chaun

Davo enni ú-chered a chírbann o choel, dân maethad hain pen-achas.

Davo enni ú-ganed an nared en-naeg nín, dân i ‘ûr orthored han.

Davo enni ú-dired mellyn bo dagorlad cuil, dân tired i vellas nín.

Davo enni ú-dharthad vi achas ‘alol an endraith, dân esteliad a mronwe crithad i leithiad nín.

Davo enni gaun hired i ‘aded e-gam lín ir im orthornen; ú-vathad i veleth lín erui vi tûr nín.

    Prayer for Courage

    (original English version)

Let me pray not to be sheltered from dangers, but to be fearless in facing them.

Let me beg not for the stilling of my pain, but for the heart to conquer it.

Let me look not for allies in life’s battlefield, but to my own strength.

Let me crave not in anxious fear to be saved, but hope for the patience to win my freedom.

    Grant me that I may not be a coward, feeling your mercy in my success alone;

But let me find the grasp of your hand in failure.

    Prayer for Valour

    (word for word translation)

Grant to me to pray not for haven from afflictions, but to fight them without fear.

Grant to me to not cry out for the stopping of my pain, but the heart to conquer it.

Grant to me to look not to friends on life’s battlefield, but to look to my own strength.

Grant to me to wait not in growing fear for saving, but to hope for endurance to reap my release.

Grant to me valour to find the grasp of your hand when I am conquered; to feel not your love

    only in my victory.

Wow. That's lovely. I can see the attraction. I may just take a crack at putting that in script myself, just to see what it looks like. That is, unless you know where I may be able to see it already scripted.

Nope, sorry I don't...but when you get it scripted, I assume you mean into Tengwar, let me know, I'd love to see it :)

Thanks. It's all been done over the last 4-5 years. The horse heads are taken from a tiny sketch in the booklet that comes with the two towers extended dvd.My tattooist takes a real interest in the designs & always advises what he thinks will work & what wont. It's important that you get a tatooist like this. There are some who just want your money, they don't care about the design or where it is going.

Think long and hard before having one.

    Thanks again for the compliment.

Wow.... that's absolutely not the stuff you get at your local Tattoo Bob's. Who did the design on those? And, man how long did it take the guy so far?

All the work i've had done started about 4 years ago.The celtic designs are taken from designs he had in the studio. All the work around the celtic design is done freehand. It's been lots of cash, lots of time & lots of pain especially the chest designs...ouch!!!
The tattoist has been tattoing for about 17 years. He is based in Birmingham,England. He only works by appointment & there is usually a 6 week wait.I'm booked in again in November. I'll post that photo as soon as I can.

Utterly amazing. Incredible pieces there, my friend. I'm impressed. You clearly have a love for your designs, as does your artist.

    Those are beautiful.

Thanks for the amazing responses to the tattoos.Much appreciated.
I started out with the celtic armband when I was 34 & I told my wife it would be my first & only one!!!!
Five years later & I'm still going. We're still married,It hasn't resulted in divorce yet!!! I think she's given up protesting now. She's not a big tattoo fan but she does admit that they look good.

Good luck with any future tattoos you have.

I've tried to upload my tattoo photos to the members gallery but it says they are the wrong format. They are bitmap images. Is this the problem.I'm not very computer literate.Does anyone know a way round this? Cheers.

Just save the file as a jpg instead :) It's the most compatable format for everything pretty much. If you're in paint or something just click file and save as...there should be a dropdown menu, and just select jpg. :)

The dropdown menu doesn't show jpeg, only different bitmap options.I've only got a couple more photos you haven't seen so I'll just try and post them here.

    Thanks
