as am I Finrod all I have to say is that there arte valid points on both sides. I first learned of LOTR in 1977 so im NOT a Movie fan but PJ did do an OK job on the movies but changed very many things but some people were introduced to Tolkien from the movies but most were not and most say hot elf or foxy arwen and nonsence like that but those people are ignorrant and stupid and do not know what LOTR really is. BYZ
ah, the tragic hero. As I remember it he was the one who made the legendary refusal to surrender Santa Sophia to Mohammed the Conqueror.
almost he was the last byzantine emperor who fell by the side of his men while fighting i dont know why but he just inspires me
I know what you mean. I have that with Edward of Woodstock, Prince of Wales. Interesting character, although a total @$$**** Same with: Alexander the Great, King Agamemnon Emperor Nero And ofcourse: Lobelia Sackville-Baggins.
Goes for me also. not the person I would like to be if I had a pick. Did ya know they actually make a film about the troyan war? Orlando Bloom gets to play in it.
Is that true? thank ya Arwen I didn't know that. I wonder when (or if) the theatrical realease will be.
i think that lotr inspired jewellery, artwork, or swords is a great thing. they sort of do bring the essence of tolkein into our own lives and homes, so i dont think that is a bad thing.
Just because we see the value of the books doesn't mean others have to. Who cares if they think Legolas is hot? I am a true fan and indeed think he is hot! But that isn't the main reason i go to watch the movies. Those people aren't ignorant and stupid they just want to enjoy the movie they are watching and aren't interested in reading the books (which are very difficult for some people) I agree they dont know what LOTR really is but that is okay for them!
It's the same with anything that becomes famous. Different people will take the movies in different ways and if you can make money off it, why not? I would say the extra popularity actually gets more people into reading the books. Many a person would not have picked up the book just because it looks long, but when the movies are so good and they see how much commercialization it is getting they think, why not? You need to accept that it's going to happen, and isn't it better to have a lot of people liking lotr in their own way then only a few people who have read the books only?
