    This is truly awesome news.
I know that HBO lately exercised theire option to buy the rights.
So we kind of had an indication.
But this you had to see to belive!!
Kind of like Obama. Everyone said he would win. But you had to see it first.
Everyone get over and check out the notblog for GRRMS announcement.

Now the casting speculation can really begin!!

    So, let us speculate.

I like Clive Owen for the part of Ned.

I know, this may be controversial, since he is mainstream, people either like him or dislike him, I like him. He is also tall and dark so he fits the part. Plus, while he is a more well known actor than HBO usually likes, he would only be for one season, and as an actor he as of yet does not have any honors that I'm aware of, so he may be willing to do one season of a show on HBO of a tragic character and maybe pick up an emmy.

OMG this is fantastic news! :D I obviously haven't got HBO though so please, oh please, let BBC broadcast this...

Oh and I like the idea of Clive Owen as Ned, he's a good actor and although he's well known he's not so much of a 'star' that he'll overshadow the others.

I think it will be done in tandem with the BBC, so I imagine it will be on both channels.

    Happened with rome.

    HBO rocks so hard!

YESS!!!!!!!!! some good fantasy on TV will be nice, watched the sword of truth thing, not bad but its about 70% cliche and 20% xena, at least HBO have the budget and the sense to stay faithful.

Time to revive the casting thread methinks

Several Canadian stations carry HBO series, although usually a year or two late. We may well see it.

This is great news. I'm thinking they will go with relatively "no name" actors, which is exciting. I mean, look what they did with Rome.

agreed - no-name actors can be far better than many named actors since they tend to be pull straight from stage stocks - where you really do have to act.
But also they cost far far less ;)
