    Witch-King and his mace

Just saw the movie today. It was great. Wouldn't necessarily promote it above the others, that decision will be after the third or fourth time I see it.

The witch-King and his flail... after seeing it I wasn't filled with some weaponic-sacrilege rage. It actaully looked like it weighed a lot, and didn't look nearly as large as the picture that started the uproar. That said, would like other comments about that mace.

    Re: Witch-King and his mace

    Hey Justice,

I saw ROTK today as well. Absolutely Awesome! The Witch-King was incredible! As for the flail, did you notice the force with which it hit? A truly devestating weapon, and given the nature of it's weilder I'd have to say that it fit right in.

However, for such a flail to be used by a an actual human I would think that it would be slow to put in action and would therefore leave the weilder vulnerable in battle.

Not that I've ever tried! Just my opinion.

    WARNING! POSSIBLE SPOILER! WARNING!

That Witchking guy, he is a ringwraith, right? So what happens to his ring after Eowyn kills him? Anyone but me thought about this?

That's an old discussion I have taken part in several times. I have come to the conclusion that you just don't know :D. You can't say whether the nine kings of men had their own rings with them or not. The sentence "The nine the nazgul keep" is very important. That could either mean that the Nazgul keep their own rings with them, or that the nine rings keep the nazgul (the ringwraiths are under the control of their rings which in turn are controlled by the one ring/sauron).

Hmmm... One way to try and check would be to take a close look at when Frodo puts the ring on on Weathertop. They might be visible there, in fact I presonally think they are but I haven't watched FOTR properly in a couple of months.

*goes to watch it again* :p

I tend to hold the books in more regard than the movie when it comes to things you have to speculate on.

This thread was started before the movie came out and most people were
complaining about how huge the WK's flail looked based on just a picture,
I must admit it did look close to rediculous... BUT.... by now I am guessing
that most of us have seen the movie...

What does everyone think about the WK's flail after seeing it in action.
I for one think it was just insanely awesome! If there was any way at
all for UC to possibly make that thing and make it affordable, I would be
all over it!!! Anyone else agree, disagree? What do you guys think???

Hmmmm...for a realistic replica the cost to ship it would be prohibitive.

But it might be fun to try to make one out of paper mache....

    Maybe

    a) They wanted more of a difference between Sauron's and the Witchking's weaponry. or
    b) The flail looked better in the battle with Eowyn than the mace did.

I would say c) all of the above. It was a definite deviation from Sauron's appearance, and weaponry, and I think that was intentional.

On the second point, the flail was far more dynamic than a mace would have been. Especially compared to Sauron. He makes that mace look gooooood. :D

The Witchking's mace did look better in the movie than the photo, but it was still unrealistically huge. I liked Sauron's mace more, since, although it is also huge, so is Sauron.

I would love to see a "real" physical representation of the Witchkings flail, it must look incredibly imposing.

I presume that it can be made out of metal but no one would want to pay for the shipping of that beast. Aluminum might be a better material than iron, it would be very expensive to make but it is possible, if you have the money that is.

    I'm a dreamer, I know.

I've seen that picture before, but I'm not sure where or when... I thought it was the weapon of the Mouth of Sauron... but I can be wrong :)

That photo is actually of the original mace of the Witchking. He had different armor as well, which I have detailed photos of from New Line. I thought the original armor, crown, and mace were closer to the book description and John Howe's original paintings, but it did look a little too similar to the prologue Sauron. If you look at the original mace head, it is almost identical to the flail head in shape.

I don't know if we will make the flail. It depends on the success of Sauron's mace, which I think is one of the most impressive pieces in all of the LOTR weaponry.

Pictures have been known to skew things around. After seeing it in LoTR, it doesnt look as bad, because you can compare it with other items.

Thanks for the info Kit. I would buy the flail if it were made, course if I had the money to when it comes out :(

Im so #"¤@@@ tired of things beeng changed just for the slow minded!!!
First they cut out key charcters couse its so hard for the audience to keep the chars appart....
Then they change the personallity of the people so the only noble and good charcter is aragon so people dont get confused of who is the hero...

    And now this!!
    AAARGGgggg!!!!
How hard could it have been to understand that it wasnt Sauron despite of that he
    could have resembled him!??!?

Those who cant understand those things should be watching the cartoon lord of the
    rings!!!!!

Hey Kit, you wouldn't, by any chance, have a price estimate for Sauron's mace when it's released do you? The Mace would definately be a purchase for me.

I too am eagerly awaiting Sauron's Mace! You can count on atleast one person purchasing it, Kit...

AND, I'm still hoping against hope that the WK's Flail is made in sometime in the future!!! :D
