I received my Phoenix Knife, made by United Cutlery, a few days ago. It's a 12 inch knife based on the Klingon d'k tahg from the Star Trek Series. Wonderful knife. Good balance, easy handling. Plus it's just fun to open and close the 2" side blades. The sheath that comes with it is also great.
    A+ *****

When the button (seen where the blade meets the handle) is down (towards the pommel), the side blades are on top of the main blade. When the button is pushed forward, the blades flip down to the position in the picture. Once I get a hold of a camera, I'll have pics of the blade in both positions.

The opening feature is mostly for looks, and so it fits in the sheath. It's just a crossguard, basically. Knife-to-knife fights with d'k tahgs were fairly common in the Klingon empire.

I don't think any company has ever licensed a big two handed batleth yet. I could be wrong, but I've never seen one that isn't pakistan made.

Yes, Justice, that's why I've been waiting for a good, well-made, and accurate bat'leth to be made. UC?

We have tried for many years to get the license from Paramount to make Klingon knives but they have a long standing "no weapons" policy from the Roddenberry days for licensed merchandise. We did get our Bird of Pey, Raptor, and modified Raven knife in Deep Space 9 and Star Trek Generations, but that is as close as we got.

I designed the Bird of Prey/Phoenoix knife for UC after years of frustration in trying to get Paramount to give us the license. I knew there were many people like me who wanted this knife so I made my own version of it. Paramount anctually sent us a cease and desist for the use of the name Bird of Prey. Even though we owned the name, we changed it to Phoenix to avoid problems in future attempts at getting the license. We were vindicated when the DS9 and Generations producers decided to use our knives in the show and movie! The licensing people are definitely not the same people who produce the show.

The one in generatons was actually my design. I designed the original Raven for the Hibben line (don't ask). Gil made the props for the movie based on one of the production designer's sketches and my drawings for changing the Raven blade. I think Gil added the spike to the pommel. I put the Klingon lettering on the blade. Gil took stock UC Raven's and made the blade changes and then the prop guys dirtied them up for the film. Paramount later used the Hibben Double Shadow and Scorpion in Star Trek Nemesis (also my designs). I do my own versions of Klingon weapons under the UC Volkoth line. Since we never got the license I just do my own Klingon looking weapons. Pretty much everything I have designed for the Hibben line was done with Klingon's in mind.

Awesome, Kit! Thanks for the explination. I'll have to check these knives out. I really like Shinzon's Knife in Nemesis.

OK, I watched Nemesis again last night (one of the best movies by the way), and the best I could figure, the Scorpion knife is probably the Reman Viceroy's (the one he uses when he fights Riker on the Enterprise), and the Double Shadow (which I haven't seen any pics of) is probably Shinzon's knife (the one he uses against Picard on the Scimitar at the end, the same one he has on the cover of the DVD).

The Viceroy's knife is the Hibben Jackal.

THe Double Shadow is the one Shnzon uses to draw blood for a DNA sample for Picard.

Like I said, I have seen the movie a few times and do not recall the Scorp being in it. I know, I have it.

    Scorpion
    Jackal
    Double Shadow

    Thanks for the pics, Sky.

You're right, the Double Shadow is the one Shinzon gives to Picard.

But I'm sure that the Jackal is the one Shinzon uses at the end. I paused it on the DVD. It's also the one on the cover of the DVD.

So, since Kit said that the Scorpion was in Nemesis, I can only assume it's the Reman Viceroy's knife. You never can see it clearly when he's fighting Riker, and trust me, I looked.

I actually bought a bat'leth from a "movie replica" company in some sci-fi magazine a number of years back. What I got was a bat'leth shape cut out of a sheet of aluminum, with pieces of those car stearing wheel covers you can buy wrapped around the handles. Taught me a lesson about where I buy my swords from!!!
