    I have to go with Fingolfin mainly because were he an infatigable being such as Morgoth he would have trounced him. But alas, he became tired and was crushed under the weight of Grond and Morgoth himself. My second vote would be Hurin for two reasons, one, basically he alone held off Morgoth's army from catching Turgon and the Gondolindrim, he slayed a good 70 beasts (trolls not among the least mind you) just at the end, not to mention the numerous others he likely slayed before the rout. And he had great mental strength, unlike his weak son...Gah, never liked the Turin character. He got jiggy wit his sister (shudders), lead Nargothrond to it's ruin. And he went insane.

    I reckon starting a poll with the greatest female warrior.

    I vote Luthien for going to save Beren from Morgoth.

    You mean from Sauron, right?

    well, Luthien was kind of special but she certainly was no warrior, Huan basically did all the fighting for her. she was mighty yes, but not from a warriorish point of view.

    Didn't Galadriel wield some weapons back in the West? Pretty valliant too, I believe. Furthermore, wasn't she the reason for Feanor to make the Silmarils? I'l vote for her, if it comes to it.

    For my favourite warrior of the first age must be Turin; Although he problably won't be best after counting corpses (how do dreagons count?), he has the tragic of a real warior! That's what I like about him.

    Well, I say Fingolfin.
    "The elvenking's broken,
    he strumbles and falls,
    most proud and most valiant,
    his spirit survives
    ..."
    ---> Isn't that about him?? :p

    I vote for Fingolfin, just cutting Morgoth's foot with his sword Ringil is enough to know the guy kicks *ss
