This is an ignorant ( no, not stupid, ignorant ) question.
First, there are many different types of swords. Different regions in the world developed their own styels based on their available resources, and needs in battle.

Secondly, one can now break things down further.
There are different "classes" of swords. Some are purely decorative ( for example, the United Cutlery Lord of the Rings swords ), and others, are "functional", meaning that theoretically, you could take them to battle.

These two classes can also be broken down further.
The quality of both types vary quite a bit.

For example, you could be a "functional" sword that isn't much better ( in terms of quality ) then a well made wallhanger ( a name for decorative swords ).

Essentially, your question is answer-less, becuase of the nature of the question. Due to the huge variety of swords being made today, there is not one best sword.

    Don't forget about antique swords.

There are way to many swords out there, like Jessehk said. People will argue that the one is better then the other but you can't even compare them because they are completely different. Not only that, but each person has their own... calling. Each person has an idea or knows what a "good" looking sword is.

For me... I haven't decided yet.

Well... to tell you the truth, you can get swords with great quality for much less then that. Some people are willing to pay that much... but hey. Thats up to you.

What's with you and Albion, bro? Do you actually own something they've made, or do they pay you commission for recommending them all the time?

My sword is made by albion, and it rocks. It is probably the best sword I've ever handled without it being "custom" manufactured.

Albion = quality, perfection, pure ass-kickery.

And I am not a spokesperson, I, like Thorin, know my swords.

That's all fine and dandy, I was just wondering if he owned any. I own over 20 functional swords, several of which are Albion.
