I was thinking that the general book section is not getting enough attention past updates to the reading list threads - so I thought what if it was moved from the general book section (thus leaving hte book subsection only for specific titles and series) and moved up to the general section at the top of the forum. I think being here it would see more use than hidden amungst the long list of sections (its a long complex list for a new member - they want simple to start out with).
I know that there is the general fantasy section up there already, but its not really for talking about indevidual books and more about the overal themes and ideas in fantasy as a whole disipline (ie you have your books, films, games all talked about at once)

I agree, I thought this myself when I first came here.

You want to move the general book section out of the general book section?

That's what your first sentence is saying.

    Yes! :)
the general book section main thread (general books). should (IMO) be moved up to the general section - leaving the general books section for specific books.

Hmm...looks suitable enough where it is....doesn't really seem out of place. Lack of activity shouldn't really mean a shift for it.

Any normal person would scroll the main page to see what the forum has to offer, and so it's easy enough to spot. Was for me and my friends when we first joined.

Its not that its out of place (though one could argue that as a general fantasy thread it should belong in the general section) but that people don't notice it - yes you can scroll down the page, but its easy to miss - also the top of the page is what people first see - and thus what first grabs thier attention.

People look at the top of the page first since the page loads there. Ok, what about it?

Most people will carefully go through each section to see what the forum has to offer. Secondly, the fact the numerous threads are present in that section seems to indicate that people have a perfectly easy time finding it.
