Has anyone ever noticed that weapons and armor in big movies like Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia typically have a very cool appearance that you just don't find in the historical stuff? It's almost as if the metal itself has a unique luster. Obviously the movie designs are more artistic and less practical, but still, that can't be the only reason they look so cool. Perhaps its a matter of lighting and camera work. In the movie 300, the red capes were designed carefully to appear a specific way when filmed. Maybe the same can be done with metals.
