Yay! *excited about Firi's vlog*
For mine I just used my digital camera's movie recording setting and "Windows Movie Maker". WMM is a free program included with Windows operating systems. It was pretty easy to use actually.
So I just made this with my phone, as a first attempt. But I'm not showing my face in this one. Maybe in the next video.
[NOPE]Too late! Deleted![/NOPE]
Does it work?
EDIT: Also, I'll probably delete in in a couple of days. >_>
Lovely voice Firiath, with a slight German accent
I cannot wait to see you less stressed out Just one tip though: hold the camera horizontally; we get to see more.
And is your work history-related? Those looked like old texts on the wall.
About holding the camera horizontally... Yeah, I figured that out on my way home, when it was already too late. I just tried making another video, >9000 times, but I'm never really happy with, uh... with my face. And my hair. And everything else. >_>
But still, I've made another video, I just need to upload it which might take a moment...
EDIT: There it is... Me! Saying "uh" and "uhmm" a thousand times!
You did an awesome job!
You're very pretty... but then I'm a sucker for a German accent.
Sorry gang, you don't get to see my one and only vlog of me talking shirtless and drunk into a shaky camera, and breaking into song. Though I think I did a pretty fair rendition of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'...
Aww, thanks! The next time I make a video I'll speak with a really heavy German accent that can make ears bleed. Although... I'll need gallons of booze to do that AND post it online.
Maybe you could bring yourself to upload it with the aid of our good friend alcohol!
Fifi!!! You cut your hair!
Your accent is lovely.
Next time, try to get better lighting.
I wanna see those twinkling blue eyes again.
Heh, I turned off the ceiling lights on purpose, to hide the rings under my eyes
This vlog thing kind of got me hooked. Damn you people and your crazy ideas! I'll make another video as soon as I've got something interesting to say.
Awesome videos, Firi! <3 Your English is excellent! And wow, your own office. You're a big fish!
Heh, thanks! I'll only be a research assistant and I'll share it with another one who's currently finishing her MA thesis, but it's still pretty cool. Making me feel all grown up and everything (with paperwork and responsibility and stuff)
Id do one but it would just be me being a Larrikin so meh.
That's no excuse! In fact, I'd say that's certainly a good prerequisite for a vlog.
Awesome vlog Firi! I love these things! It's soooo neat to see everyone and hear them talk. You have a great accent.
Congratulations on your office too!
@Sparrow... i totally want to hear your version of "Over the Rainbow...". HAHAHAHAHA
yay for Firi! Seconded on your lovely German accent!
I now want to follow you around where you work Firi! Not only are you lovely and have really nice hair but you do the most awesome work!!!
I would love to see some Chaucer manuscripts (read some original chaucerian texts once and loved it). And what era of poetry are you working on? Any specific poems (Beowulf, Perl, The Wanderer, ... ?).
I'm writing my thesis about The Wanderer and The Wife's Lament, and have done a lot on the elegies. Starting in October I'll shift my focus towards wisdom poetry in general, as I'll run a course on gnomes in OE poetry.
As soon as I'm in my new office I'll show you around in another video, although there's not really much to see
Also... it feels so good to see someone else being so enthusiastic about this stuff ^_^
Yes! The Wife's Lament! I've heard of it, but not read it before (Feeling like re-reading Beowulf and The Wanderer)
Old English studies are not available to first years here, so I did Chemistry and Physics instead (perfectly normal choice ) but I've heard that it's possible to do them next year, so I can't wait!
I'd love to hear more from you about your work
I also saw a cool t-shirt today:
Beowulf, because Chaucer is too easy.
Cool! Cool and true. Reading Chaucer isn't that difficult as soon as you've gotten used to it. Last semester I had to read Beowulf and I read a glossed Old English edition. It took ages for me to finish it, but it was worth the challenge.
Never ceases to amaze me how many awesome people are here, this is definitely one of the best places ever
wonderful videos Firi
