hey guys, i've noticed there havent been any new threads in the fighters guide house, so i figured id make one.

I was curious to know if anyone could give me some tips/ techniques to use for me style of fighting. (just so you know, i dont participate in any official fighting, but i train quite a bit on my own.)

my choice weapons are two, escrima stick sized wooden poles. i sort of carved them. anyway, i use them pretty fast and slip through my oponents defenses. but now when me and my friends spar, they know what ill probably do. that takes me back to my question:

does anyone have any techniques, styles, etc, that could make me a better fighter?

I really dont know what to tell you about technics, I think you should either find something in the net or try making one yourself. If you say that your friends know your attacking style then you should have couple of styles or a random style, in order to confuse you opponent and he wont be able to predict your next attack. I'm no specialist in combat technics, thats just what comes to my mind.

Every shot you make, use your hips. That way your blows will be quicker and more powerful. The key to making a proper hit with a club, sword or stick is that when making a blow, your arm should have to twist into a strike like with a punch from boxing. Your arm should never be locked after you land your hit, keep your arm bent slightly but still extended. Best trick to do this is aim abit past what your hitting.

If you don't know what that means, hit so that your cleaving through the target to hit another target next to it.

Also you'll need a good stance. Bend your knees slightly, keep your feet shoulder length apart with one foot behind the other (Preferably the leg on the same side as your main sword arm.)

In a guard one of the best basic ones is to have one of your sticks held in front of you to block any attacks and another higher up near your shoulder or head so you can power your attacks better.

It isn't an eskrima style but it should help alot if you do it right.

Yea if i get the chance ill write you up a better basic intro into it.

If you train, train as often as you can. Training alone goes only so far, the more you spar the better you'll get.

    Good luck with it man.

Yeah, practice always helps. And if your friends ar enailing you with a particular move, don't be afraid to copy it yourself! :D Watch someone you consider better than yourself, ask for advice, leave a false opening and when they go for it, nail them with a planned block and counterstrike.

How many of you are there? In any activity it helps to push yourself. Being the best in a group means you're usually competing against people not quite as good as you. If you can find people who can hand you back your ass on a plate, keep fighting them, watch them fight other people, learn from what they can teach you. Then combine it all into your own style of what works for you, your weapons, and your body.
