Some videos my friend found on Youtube. That saber amazed me with its thrusting ability!

I've seen other videos comparing the much vaunted curved Japanese swords against straight-edged European swords (eg Viking) on tatami mats. Both cut just as well, proving yet again that quality of steel and cutting technique are the main components to a good cut. A tinfoil katana swung by a chimp won't simply win a fight just because it's a katana :)

Re: Cutting test videos with real swords

Yes it will! A tinfoil katana is so sharp that if you drop it edge down it will cut through the Earth! :hackit:

Thanks, Mub. In part the videos are fun and impressive, and that's reason to watch them. But it's good to be reminded about just what real swords were for: turning people into hunks of meat.

BTW, links 1 and 3 don't work, but you can find them in the Related Videos for 2 and 4.

I've got a dvd from Cold Steel about their swords and spears. If you contact them they will probably send you one for free. I got mine at one of there displays. Naturally it promotes there stuff but some of the test methods might be fun.

Boy I feel dumb. After watching them I realized it WAS Cold Steel.
