Hi All, They say, "the more, the merrier". We're looking for suggestions for ways to get the word out about our site. Word of mouth from our members is one of the best ways to attract new members. Anyone have any other ideas?
Have people actually post on the forum? We (You), need to find something new, the fantasy forum thing seems to be getting old. People just get bored of it... Man...Wish I had didnt get bored so easily...
Asgath. I don't at all like your suggestion. People are posting on the forum. And a lot. It is the summer time and things calm down in the summer yet we still get around 1000 new posts a week which is fine with me. We are a fantasy forum and not every person on this earth like fantasy. Yet those die hard people that do are what keep this forum together. We are not even 1 yet and we have over 2000 members and over 120k posts. I and others are proud of that and we are well on our way to being the cornerstone of the fantasy community. So when Skyanide asks how to get the word out we don't want to hear a complaint about having people post on the forum. Stick to the topic or don't post at all.
I think going to other fantasy sites and advertising would be a good start. Way back in the day I was surfing on dragonmount.com, and decided to post a link to here. Almost all of the frequent WoT posters, with the exception of Turin, Nienor and myself, came here from that link. I know there are lots of other fantasy fans out there, but because the internet is so vast they need to be informed of us. I also notice a trend in specific tolkien sites dying in activity. Many members could be collected from there with advertising.
Also, everyone should be reminded to keep doing this. http://www.thefantasyforum.com/showthread.php?t=2444&page=1 It's easy to forget (I do). But keeping TFF's name on that list will let people know where we are.
At another site I frequent, they have a banner at the top of the page. That banner is shared among other sites as well, it helps them spread knowledge of their site.
Seems to me- the most active forums I have seen are secondary functions that compliment the primary functions of a site. Examples are AICN, Chud, Rotten Tomatoes, Slashdot etc. I think there should be a broader appeal than what attracts current members ... We have a lot of readers so maybe book reviews?
I don't recall...but are there incetives to referrals? Nothing material, of course. For example...perhaps after "X" referrals one could be allowed "Y" number more stored PM's or something?
Most other forums don't allow direct advertising, but for those that do go to other forums, they can't say anything about what you put in your signature (for the most part). That might get a few...?
I'm not sure I understand this one. You want looser controls on what we're allowed in our sigs? I thought 5 lines plus an image was pretty good myself.
Oh, I see. Okay. That first part did get me a bit confused. Well consider that this is a forum designed for sharing thoughts and ideas in an organized arena. Not a television/radio for advertisements. If people want to advertise their different companies, there are millions of ways to do it online. Don't get me wrong, I understand the desire to advertise, I do...but I suppose I can understand the desire to keep sigs clean as well.
Also true. Very nice being able to turn off the pop up blocker on so mainstream a site for a change. I think I can do that on about three other sites in my "Favorites"...and one of them is Google...so it doesn't really count.
