Well Kit, I am sure that UC's version of Gandalfs staff would sell much better than Noble's. I think that there a lot of people who have held off on the noble one in hopes of a UC version. UC = better quality and better price. Most people I think would go for that.

My question is gonna be the same as fourpaws and one which i have already asked. How are the staves separated. Are they gonna be split into equal lengths or is it just the head that is detachable. I am really keen on knowing this. Hope you can respond Kit.

    Hopefully Kit will answer.

I think they are split right in the middle. If you think about it, it makes sense. Shipping a 6 foot long object is a LOT of money. Shipping a 3 foot long object (the staff in two parts) is a lot cheaper.

In UC's Fall 2003 catalog you can see a split in the middle of Saruman's staff where it seperates (unscrews I am assuming.) I can't make out any seperation line on the White staff, but I'm sure it is the same.

That's great thinking Doombringer and some great eyes Foe Hammer but I just had another thought. Saruman's staff can afford to be split in the middle because the whole staff is casted metal. I assume the top half of the staff can be casted with half of the shaft attached to it. The other half of the shaft is just casted as a long slender shaft to be screwed together in the middle.

Gandalf's staff on the other hand is a solid wood shaft with a metal crown cast. So it doesn't have the advantage of being casted with the crown attached to half of the shaft and joined together in the middle. I see this as a huge disadvantage because it jeopardizes the staff with most of the weight on the top half and if swung it has the potential to snap in the middle.

Just my little thought on it. But well see how they really are when i get my order of both of the staves. Can't wait.

I only pre-ordered Saruman's staff. I am holding out for Gandalf the Grays over Gandalf the Whites.

They are both split in the middle, and Gandalf's is not "combat ready". It will break the joint in the middle if you whack Orcs with it. It is assembled like a pool cue joint. Strong but not built for side stress.

Bummer, I was really expecting that the staves are assemebled with a whole shaft and attached to the head piece. Oh well, I'm still glad to be able to get them.

I forgot to add in my previous post, sorry. But would anybody know a more approximate date of when the staves will be released, I was hoping that it will come out this week but it seems most likely that they will be coming out in March then. Hopefully the first week or two. Blast it if it's released later than that.

According to another site Sauron will be out mid-March (15th at the earliest) but Gandalf was pushed back to April.

Hm, I didn't know pool cues were two pieces. Guess that bodes well for the integrity of the White Staff.

Although, for the record, I think I've whacked someone with a pool cue before... :p

It is, I take it, strong enough to support someone's weight, and thus walk on?

You must be kidding me Elladan! Strong enough to walk on! Really now. Is it that strong. And for your comment on not knowing that pool cues come in two pieces, there are those that do and those that don't. Usually, the ones that are not connected are the kind you would find at a pool hall or some establishment. These are the pool cues that are out for everyone to play with. And as for the cues that come in two pieces, these are the ones that are purchased and carried by those billiard enthusiast who play constantly. But they are pretty well made so I know they're pretty strong, and might be able to hold a person's weight within the stress level the cue can take. Hopefully Gandalf's white staff it constructed pretty well to take that kind of stress. But i doubt it since it was commented that "it was not built for side stress."
