George Lucas has been planning to convert the "Star Wars" saga to 3D in order to re-release all six films theatrically. He has been waiting until there were enough 3D screens available. And according to a Lucasfilm statement, the time has come. Episode I, "The Phantom Menace," would be the first one to hit theaters, which will happen early 2012. After that, each film would be released in order at the same time in consecutive years, depending on how well the first re-release does. "There are few movies that lend themselves more perfectly to 3D; from the Death Star trench run to the Tatooine Podrace, the 'Star Wars Saga' has always delivered an entertainment experience that is completely immersive," said the statement. In the meantime, Lucas plans a comprehensive Blu-ray Disc set of the six films next year, which will include upgraded picture and sound quality, new deleted scenes and special features. »

    Cant WAIT!!!!!

I think starwars need to file a restraining order on George....

I've seen a few of these 2d to 3d films and to be honest its not worth it for what you gain visually and the glasses are a right pain to wear. Besides the only things that look "cool" in 3d are the credits...

I`ll go on them in 2d, 3D is way to expensive. But Im happy about re-making films. 4-6 episode (mmm)

Bah noo - He already damaged the original 3 by trying to remaster them (seriously how does one remaster a classic and end up with a worse product!). The less the better in my minds eye. Though he has my full permission to redo the new 3 without JarJar as a start ;)

Unless I get to see Han shoot FIRST in 3D, he's not getting any more of my money.

pretty sure this has already been brought up in another thread and I said I saw a thing on tv about it. tbh, it sounds dumb and will ruin the whole star wars saga. I mean... 3D is cool but meh, leave the classics how they are!!! That's what makes them awesome!

It may be good...., but i know sci-fi fans are laughing at the idea already.

I'm still getting it on Blu-Ray next year, which is of course not 3-D. But of course a 3-D version on Blu-Ray will come out and when I have a 3D tv I'll get that as well lol

Or better still get someone decent to do it from scratch :p

Yeah, if he's going to release Phantom menace first and hope for huge ticket returns before doing the rest of the movies (ie 4, 5 and 6 that were actually worth watching), then we'll never get past Phantom Menace in 3D!!!

I'm skeptical but I'll still go. I cant get enough of watching the 'originals' on the big screen...they play them every couple years at this little theater here in Boston and I enjoy it every time.

My first reaction to this was: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

Good job, Mr Lucas, you've found yet another way to make a bit more money with your creation. I usually say "if the plot sucks, make it 3D" - so I really don't think the trilogies need to be remastered this way. >_<

The classics will probably be worse! In 3D that is.... Which I don't really care that much about, but it's still worth it. That's just because they're from an older format and not digitally filmed, so they're will be probably tougher to convert.

Heck that's one of those movies you have to go see at the cinema.Whe the original trilogy came out to the cinemas remastered and/or edited back in the 90s I went to see it and I was totally blown away. It's one of the experiences you shouldn't miss.Just watching the entire battle over the Death Star is just...you know...WOW!

And 3-D?This time you don't go to Death Star.Death Star comes to you and it's BIG!
