As much as it pains me to do this i found something interesting that could help toward LDH's crackpot theory that varys is a shadowbinder or whatever. Its not much but in my current reread of ASOS, The chapter where davos returns to dragonstone, sallador saan is in the possession of a ship belonging to illyrio. Now its the assumption that he seized itwith his newfound powers from stannis, but what if it isnt. What is sallador saan is te envoy between illyrio and their agent on dragonstone. obviously in order for the varys/illyrio conspiracy to work they need fingeres everywhere, what is melisandre is their spy in stannis' court. To an exent that mihgt mean its a whole shadowbinder conpiracy thought i doubt it, though a connection is intriguing. Lets look at it this way, sallador saan, why is he with stannis, stannis started of never paying him, and continued to do that while he only had a fe hundred men. Any reason for a somewhat mercenary captain to stay? no. And next, the kings fleet is cut to ribbons, his newfound army crushed, and he flees back to dragonstone. and sallador saan still gets no money, yet he remains? the peice of paper he get saying he was in charge of blackwater bay is menaingless, he could just raid all the ships he wanted, and if stannis loses, whihc was likely, then it would never be authentic and hed just be raiding anyway. And can anyone find and comment from sallador or melisandre about the other? just to try and give some validation to this theory. see what theyre saying or what theyre not saying. Also varys was very quite on bringing the xistence of melisandre to the court in kings landing, coincidence? so theres some validation that she might be in on th eillyrio/varys plot.
Varys and Melisandre? I hope not. Mel's working for Stannis, and Varys is working for Dany to be restored. I'll look through my books though and start taking notes on Mel, Varys, Illyrio, and Sal.
I didn't. Remember the scene Jaime was talking about where he said "The one time he [Aerys] should have listened to Varys, he didn't." When Pycelle urged him to open KL's gates to Tywin, Varys said it was a trap but Aerys ignored him. And we all know what happened after that.
And davos et al arent fond of melisandre either. its very much a similar situation, only one likes to burn people.
Both of them do. If you're referring to Aerys, that is. @ Nynaeve: Yep. A big, happy, fun, party, just like Tyrion's wedding was one of blissful matrimony.
lol, Sorry. I didn't have time last night. It really is nothing really exciting, and it's true - it might be posted somewhere else. I have no idea. In one of the beginning chapters in AGoT Old Nan tells a story: "In that darkness, the Others came for the first time," she said as her needles went click click click. "They were cold things, dead things, that hated iron and fire and the touch of the sun, and every creature with hot blood in its veins. They swept over holdfasts and cities and kingdoms, felled heroes and armies by the score, riding their pale dead horses and leading hosts of the slain. All the swords of men could not stay their advance, and even maidens and suckling babes found no pity in them. They hunted the maids through frozen forests, and fed their dead servants on the flesh of human children." Her voice dropped very low, almost to a whisper, and Bran found himself leaning forward to listen. "Now these were the days before the Andals came, and long before the women fled across the narrow sea from the cities of the Rhoyne, and the hundred kingdoms of those times were the kingdoms of the First Men, who had taken these lands from the children of the forest. Yet here and there in the fastness of the woods the children still lived in their wooden cities and hollow hills, and the faces in the trees kept watch. So as cold and death filled the earth, the last hero determined to seek out the children, in the hopes that their ancient magics could win back what the armies of men had lost. He set out into the dead lands with a sword, a horse, a dog and a dozen companions. For years he searched, until he despaired of ever finding the children of the forest in their secret cities. One by one his friends died, and his horse, and finally even his dog, and his sword froze so hard the blade snapped when he tried to use it. And the Others smelled the hot blood in him, and came silent on his trail, stalking him with packs of pale white spiders big as hounds-" At this point the story is interupted by the arrival of Tyrion at Winterfell. But it sounds to me like it could be the story of Coldhands.
I think its mre likely to be one of the other stories, the one about the tower on the wall where the commander married an other or somesuch one, that seems more linked to coldhands than the story of the last hero.
Seems interesting. Won't make any judgements until ADWD comes out. Speaking of which, anyone else ready to raid GRRM's house until he finishes the book? -.-
I'm with you there! In fact I'm sure he won't mind too much since his house is a wreck with the remodeling and all! Hey, LD we aren't too far from NM...lol! :devilspin
