I really enjoy photography, and also photo manipulation in photoshop. I didn't have my camera with me for some really awesome clouds today, so I googled storm clouds, then edited the first thing to come up to make it cooler. Here's what I got.

I had some other cool ones, but I like this the best.

It's abstract to the degree that the style becomes an acquired taste. I like it anyway.

And it's open source thanks to Wikimedia. I love that site so much...

To be honest, I like the original much more. :) Both are lovely, in any case.

lol.... Well, I did not contribute to the first one at all, so any praise you may have for that doesn't go to me.

S'ok. Such is the subjectivity art... or you may beg to differ on my terminology. :p I hope you're not offended, but I am content that I can produce something that I myself appreciate, regardless of the viewer's reaction.

And I am consoled by the unpopularity of Beethoven's Grosse Fugue (which I like very much).

    I'll try something less abstract.

That's just some basic contrast and curves adjustment for the most part. If I may say so, that version actually looks rather cool black and white as well. You may not notice striking differences scrolling between them, but if you put them side-by-side, you'll see the changes easily.

And now I'll post a couple variations despite the fact that they aren't very good. :p

The last is a lot like the first, but there are differences. It's smoother, and the thing in the middle is less of an ink stain.

This is a double post in lieu of a second thread. Something entirely unrelated I've decided to post here:

That has no source image; it is entirely and 100% from scratch. :) Completely my own creation.

Edit: I did use one texture. :p I took a picture of a rock and turned it into the planet you see there. But that was only a small part. And still my work.

Like I said, I used a picture of a rock to base the planet texture off of.

It's amazing how useful photoshop's clouds filter is! I use it for everything pretty much, then I just edit it to make it look better/less uniform. All the stars but the three brightest (obviously manually put in) were just noise filters. It's a common trick

Thank you very much! Maybe I've atoned for the 3-minute abomination in my first post. I admit, that took me a bit over an hour to do in total... Most of it was working on the planet and then some detail work once it was done. The background was nothing.

the planet is freaking awesome, but I agree with appaliq, the original is better, but then again you can never go wrong with the wonderous beauty of clouds ^^

Spoken like a true artist. I hope you werent offended either! I'm not really an abstract kind of person. I'm the idiot tilting my head to one side saying, "I don't get it."

    Beautiful planet! :)

well i for one prefer your manipulated version of the first cloudscape. it is if anything intense and captured my imagination instantly. i believe i could stare into it for sometime as this piece elicits idea as much as it does a feeling, it is philosophy as much as it is art. i would definitely place it on my wall. excellent, truly excellent. i hope you will continue to express yourself abstract and otherwise.

    Thank you for the comments!

I was not offended, but it is undeniably preferable when the audience appreciates the creation. And I am very glad that the planet went over well.

As to Volksmenner, I am flattered. Intensity was what I was going for.
