I'd be tempted to bow before the rose overload to gain early favor, but being whipped with thorns doesn't sound pleasant. Hurry Druid, clip it quick!

*grabs chainsaw* Let me at it, we must hurry before we're DOOOOOMED!

Ah, in that case I'm just going to replace the dirt. 1:1 mix of garden soil to natural dirt should work, no? Dig down about a foot and make a ditch longways where seeds will be planted and then fill it with the good stuff and just amend it with fertilizer twice a year like we normally do. Do you think that will do the trick? I just have to figure out a way to come up with the funds for it. Also would like to mulch around the garden now that I've got the border up for more weed defense (and aesthetics) Actually... make a flower garden around the vegetable garden to make sure the bees get to the right place. This could work.

I would think that would work and just keep adding compost and spent soil to those garden beds every year. Maybe start with easy plants that are tough to kill. Look for heirloom seeds and plants that are native to your area to start with, and progress to more finicky plants as the soil improves in a few years.
I envy you the climate there. There are some things that absolutely won't grow properly here: like watermelon for example. It isn't hot enough here or wet enough and the growing season just isn't long enough either.

    *dons protective garden wear*
OK ... I'm ready to help tackle the Overlord!

Careful! It's started pouring with rain, which the Overlord will gladly use to grow more after days of strong sunshine!
We have plans to trim it this weekend, but will our small outposts hold until then?

I'd recommend stocking up on pitch, nothing gets past a pitch field.

Well I hope the Overlord didn't beat Druid up too badly :/

    Some more pics:

    A bunch of purple coneflowers:

and another wildflower called "Obedient plant". I like these ones, they remind me of snapdragons a little bit:

The whole point of having a vegetable garden: dinner! :D

I never grow enough peas to get a lot of meals out of them but they're fun to eat raw out of the garden. Peas are sooooo sweet when they're fresh. :)

and, to quote the Starks: Winter is Coming
The first pumpkins are starting to turn orange already:

Yummy peas! They look huge, can't wait till the weather cools off enough to plant some! The pumpkin looks wonderful, huge plant! *envious* The coneflowers are beautiful as well, I've heard that butterflies love them; is this true?

I'll have to take a picture of the vines tomorrow for you DS: they've now marched halfway across my backyard. The first leaves they grew are starting to die off now, even though the vines themselves just keep on trucking. Mowing the lawn is currently an exercise in creativity :D

Honestly, I don't see too many butterflies on my coneflowers but then I haven't seen too many butterflies around this year anyway :( . When the echinacea seed-heads are mature in the fall however, I get these little yellow finches that visit them. They land right on the old flowers and eat the seeds... soooooo cute! :)

Wow, lovely pictures! And those peas look amazing!

Brace yourselves! The rose Overlord defied all attempts at cutting it and continues growing!

Better reconsider... try a motorcycle or snowmobile helmet... those thorns are smaller than hockey pucks!

@Dreamscaper: those melons and pumpkins are really going now... won't be long and you'll be growing your own jack-o-lanterns for halloween. :) I wanted the cookie, but I don't get the reference. :(
