So these aren't exactly gardening but here are some winter pics from the nutty weather we've been having this year:

    My back deck:

We're running out of places to put snow...lol

    Sunrise in winter :)

    Lots of snowy weather!

Today's snowstorm! I took this pic when I had to pull over on the side of the road to bang the ice off my windshield wiper blades as I was driving to work.

Winter driving fun. :D I took this one at a stop sign:

This last one makes me laugh a little. Notice how the speed limit sign says 80 km/hr. If I'd hit 80 km/hr on that road, I'd have been as buried as that darn sign. :D

    Rise from dormancy seedling thread!

Just an update, I've gotten a terribly late start on mine this year, but I've got things in earthboxes only this year (tearing up the yard didn't go so well), but I've got seedlings! Just a fall garden this year I suppose. In less than a week the garden beans already have true leaves. The okra is still in seedling form and I've got a handful of Zinnia sprouting and even a Four O'Clock. Will definitely take pictures when they bloom!

    Yay for garden thread revived!!

My gardening efforts had to really be scaled back this year...noooo time :p
I miss them sorely. However, it's amazing how they can hold there own without my interference anyway. My pumpkins re-seeded themselves without any help from me at all and they are producing tons of flowers. A friend of mine told me about cooking pumpkin flowers so we've been eating the boy flowers this year and leaving the girls to grow pumpkins for us. I had no idea they were edible...who knew?

    Pics from Ems!

I totally spazzed on the garden this year and abandoned the okra and flowers in the midst of school, work, internship, etc... Ended up with a handful of okra and Zinnia, nothing else made it. About to get the winter garden planted though. Cabbage, spinach, carrots, and onions along with some flowers.

S.J. have you considered having a terrarium for winter gardening? Though you're a lot more active with it than I am so you might just enjoy the break... just a thought for growing dwarf varieties indoors in the winter.

I actually start seeds early indoors because we have such a short growing season here. I always run into a problem with light though. I have one large, really good window that lets in a lot of sun and one other that is OK for plants. I have to stack the trays of seedlings on racks and I have to turn them every day so they don't lean too badly in one direction. In spite of that the seedlings still grow long and spindly because they're starved for sunlight...poor little guys. One of these days I'm going to invest in some grow lights!!

Ah, that makes sense! I've repurposed an aquarium into a terrarium with some of my outdoors plants so that's why I was asking. I had live aquatic plants in there so the light is for plants so I never have to screw around with outside lighting, which doesn't work well when you don't like waking up at sunrise! lol.

The sun is a great, free light source... that can't penetrate through my roof. :(

This is true. The window faces north anyway so its not terribly great for lighting in the first place.

I gotta say last winter was the worst I've seen in many years.... here's hoping the one that's just starting isn't going to be nearly as bad!

Oh Emerlas... those are lovely flowers!

Hope so for your sake. I heard on the news the other day Florida and Hawaii were the only two states not seeing freezing weather this week. I can only imagine it up in Canada.

We're only around -3 C here but the prairie provinces are getting hammered by arctic air. I think Regina, Saskatchewan is hovering around -12 C right now .... no thanks!!!!
