OK, sooooo I'm a very BAD photographer with a crappy "point and click" camera that I can barely use. As a result I am probably going to post a bunch of fuzzy images. However, I don't really know where else to put this thread so I thought I'd throw it in here. (My apologies in advance to all the pros who post GOOD photos for messing up your nice photography house folder. :D)
I do like to garden however and I thought it might be fun to post pics of my gardens and follow them for a season. I'm hoping if there's any other gardening fans here on TFF they can chime in with their knowledge of growing things and maybe some pics of their gardens too.
Let the growing of green things begin... :D

So spring has finally come and as usual, my gardens look like complete crap after being buried under snow and a blanket of leaves all winter.
This is my perennial wildflower plot:
Don't look like much yet since everything's currently under the ground.
Still, there's stuff just starting to sprout within 3 days of raking the leaves off it:
    Queen of the Prairie:
    Echinacea (Purple Coneflower):
and Obedient Plant (which is not at all obedient BTW):
This is a border garden alongside my deck:
I've just started edging this one to keep it distinct from the lawn. Not all of the plants you can see are weeds :D. The spiky ones are iris and there are also:
    Forget-me-nots:
    and Pacific Giant Delphiniums:

Spring bulbs are now coming out in full force, in spite of being covered in ice a few weeks ago :D

And here's just some random, crazy stuff that I didn't plant that turned up in my lawns and gardens:

    "Blue-eyed Grass":

    "Snow Drops":

Wild violets (I think "pansies" are the domesticated version of this plant):

and a whole bunch of them together look really awesome:

This stuff jumped from my neighbour's backyard to mine. Since it comes out with tons of pinkie-purple flowers later in the summer I left it to spread on it's own. I have no idea what it's called:

A final post of spring favourites that are just starting out this time of year:

    Peonies:

    Lilacs:
(I've been waiting 7 years for this shrub to grow up enough to flower and FINALLY this year it's going to humour me). This fuzzy thing in the middle of the photo is the flower bud (really :D):

and this is a fuzzy shot of some not very favourite snails who decided to make a meal out of the leaf buds on one of my younger lilac shrubs that I planted last year.
-_- Those little suckers got picked off and tossed!

I love seeing the garden come back to life again after winter. Ours is really green now, but the leaves on the trees are slow to come. Everything else is so bright though after rain and sun.

I don't think that Overread will kill you too badly; some of those photos were quite nice!

    Thanks Druid :)
Our trees are just starting to show buds too. I'll post a pic of the apple tree soon. The flowers come out before the leaves do and the tree looks awesome when that happens!

Our entire garden is green and grown. The daffodils are on their way and the sun is out. Spring is beautiful at the moment.

You could still do a container garden Crou!
I haven't started mine yet. I don't dare before June 1st here or we'll get a frost and everything will die. (I only do annuals in containers).

Garden Update May 10th: you can almost see stuff growing it's popping out of the ground so fast! :D

Remember the bare ground that was the wildflower plot? Here's what it looks like about 10 days later:

This stuff is called "Spiderwort" (an unfortunate name :p). It's another wildflower that looks like grass until it flowers. By next month it will be producing tons of dark purple, 3-petalled flowers:

and now the tulips have joined the daffodils:

And my "woodland" shade gardens are starting up with flowers now too.

The wood poppy is one of the first things to show up in the spring. 10 days ago it had buds:

    Now it's starting to flower:

Wood Poppy spreads like crazy! :D

These are from a shade garden in the back. Here we call them "soldiers & sailors":

The peonies have grown something like 5 times their height in the last 2 weeks!

And all the lily of the valley has literally just jumped out of the ground:

Here's a shot of my little gardening buddy who loves to lay on my flowers :p

    It's a good thing she's cute! :p

I could. I've been thinking of potting some plants for the balcony. Preferable some veggies or something I can use in cooking. Maybe some herbs.

Oh yes! Herbs do great in pots and so do tomatoes, beans and peppers. I can never seem to water tomatoes enough when they're in the ground. I'd stay away from root veggies like carrots, onions and beets in pots though... the dirt is never deep enough for them unless you build big, raised planters or something.

Hmm I love tomatoes. Maybe I'll consider that.

Yup... just don't forget to buy some fertilizer if you do pots. The plants use up the nutrients in that little bit of soil pretty quickly and start to look sickly after 6 weeks if you don't "feed" them.

Ah yes. Good hint. I'll keep that in mind.
