That's true, Dru. Gold IS hard to pull off, but S.J.'s managed it in this illustration.
Gold is a miserable colour!!!!! Gah!
^^That colour is a layered mixture of shades of yellow, orange, brown and white.
To answer your question Druid: yes, that will eventually be a scene from the prologue of Prophecy.
So I've been meaning to paint these little guys for some time now but never got around to it. I should probably put them in my garden thread since that's what inspired them but since they're a painting on top of a photo I took from my garden I thought I'd throw them in here instead.
on a side note: holy crap is Deviantart ever a big community!!!!! I had a few responses within minutes of posting these pics there. Wow!
edit: apparently image tags don't work when you post to Deviantart.....
Gold is easy... it's all in the reflections and subtle variations of color.
Gold buttons and ray gun...
I had no idea that you were on Deviantart! I've had one or two accounts on there over the years but I always seem to lose track of my usernames and passwords. I should probably start up a new one...
Your pic is awesome by the way. That put a big, silly grin on my face!
I have to disagree... understanding subtle variations of colour and metallic reflections is not easy for everyone.
Nice buttons and ray gun btw It looks like there is green in your gold. I tried green but I couldn't make it work.
Thanks! They put a big silly grin on my face too.
I liked using the concepts of sexual dimorphism and chameleon-like characteristics for those garden fairies. Besides, I'm not very good at humanoid figures or faces so they were good practice for me.
It turned out brilliantly then!
Thanks Eph. That means a lot coming from an artist like you.
