The Lord of the Rings is One book, divided into three parts (with the name) each one divided into two "books", making, yes, six books. But it's mainly one book.

Well, I would appreciate the Silmarillion becoming a movie. I think that it is not impossible to transform the information from the book into "running" pictures. Long time even LOTR was said to be "unfilmable" but that saying has changed all of a sudden. The question is only the "how" to transform it, because lots of information is contained in the elder history of the Eldar including the description and different functions of the Valars and also the different stories closely entangled. A movie would make at least more than only 3 parts and a lot of actors need to be involved, a lot of budget to be spent, corresponding places to be found etc.
Perhaps it would make most sense to film it bit by bit. First part perhaps about the Music of the Ainur and presentation of the Valar. Second part the different type of Elves, the ones that stayed "under the stars" and the three moving on to Valinor. A third one about what had happend in Valinor etc.

... but I would really looking forward to it.

The Silmarillion would never work as a single film, as the plot is broken at times and covers giant spans of time. As WM pointed out earlier, it would work in a documentary, but with a fantasy style (wouldn't really work) or as a series (like Doctor Who) where every week a part of the story is told.
If it worked like that then it would be epic.

I agree with others in this thread who said parts of the Silmarillion could be made into a movie. That might actually bring it to life for more people. In my experience only die-hard Tolkein fans can ever read it ... the majority of more casual readers find it too dry and Tolkein's writing style is too heavy for a lot of people. Maybe it would be better done as an HBO series like Game of Thrones? They could cover more ground that way.
