Well... with The Children of Hurin weeks from book shelfs, it's obvious where this one's going to end...

What is Peter Jackson up to these days?

apparently hes got the rights for a different fantasy series, His majesty's dragon/Temerie(spelling) by naomi novik, so i guess he might be doing that, and he doesnt seem very interested in doing any more tolkien!

Then I think they should only do the story of sauron, and all the evolves around that story.
How he was a maiar, submissive to the valar, servant of morgoth, then anatar. bringin forth the downfall of.. what's the island again? Numenor? The forging of the rings etc. start with a prelude of the first chapters, so viewers know who the valar are etc. Morgoth making the orcs...yep

I think the concentration should be on sauron. Every bit that he's a part of in the silmarillion is the core to the later stories, so that would make good sense...

Like star wars doing a trilogy of anakin/vader. The end story is about his redemption anyway.

    Anyone agree?

They could make a first movie about Eru and the valar, The war against Morgoth and the creation of the elves. The second movie would be about Feanor and the journey back to middle-earth until the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. The third film about Beren & Luthien, Turin Turambar. A fourth film about The fall of gondolin and Ëarendil till The War Of Wrath. And the Fifth about Akallabêth

Maybe if the 2 Hobbit movies would be a succes, they might try to film it.

I'd like to see them give it a try, but they most certainly will not. Not a big enough fan base compared to LotR.

As a whole, it would be a mess if Hollywood attempted to turn The Silmarillion (as is) into a film. However, sections of the books could be turned into a self-contained story and maybe even divided up into a series of films using the Silmarils as a connecting plot. Only problem would be finding a way to shoot the films quickly enough so that any characters reprising their roles can perform their parts without aging too much (this would be vital to any elvish characters). I would love to see it happen, but won't hold my breath. At any rate, Hollywood will probably just massacre the whole effort. If that's the case, I'll just stick with the book.

I'm not envying the one, who would try to film it! I think that there are too many characters who can't be plaied that easily. For example Valar or Melkor. It's hard to tell what they have to look like. Besides, there more then one line in the book. It would be close to impossible to make a movie without cutting some important parts out of it. And without them the story won't be whole.

The Silmarillion is like an encyclopedia or text book on much of Middle Earth's historical events. Like many have said, too much info. Children of Hurin maybe, given that it started out in the Sil and wound up as it's own seperate compilation.

I don't believe it should. It is a sort of History book. It could be made into a sort of series, but professionally made with a big budget for it to not be sh*t.

That's true and it would definitely be a big project to take on. And if that's the case, it's all about the budget and whether major studios, production teams, etc would want to spend all the time and effort, AND money, to make it into a series.

This might just be my naive opinion, but having read the Simarillion a couple times I'm under the impression that large sections of the work would be unfilmable due to long streatches of insufficient information.

That would be THE biggest reason why. It's too broad of a history that much of it will also be guess work. Not many people would want to spend enough time to put something together...

Yes, that would be a little odd and possibly worrisome.

if they made the silmarillion into a movie (or movies) it'll make it less complicated for me. I've tried to read the book several times and never gotten past a quarter of the book. the only books i can get into more is the trilogy and the hobbit without me confused. lol. i have about 6-8 of tolkien's books and half I haven't read yet. (not about to unpack them to find out how many i have.)

The Lord of the Rings is not a trilogy but one book.
The hobbit was written for five-year-olds and older.
