i think the silmarillion should become a movie.. elves of gondolin and all the other good stuff
heh... pretty hard. It's kind of a bundle of stories. There are great pieces worthy of a movie, though...
Well, i think it wouldn't be enough commercial, and i can't imagine such a movie filmed with actors + FX.
But rather as totaly CG generated (like FF the movie), and subdivided into small parts.
Yes that would be great...
the silm. would be awesome as a movie, but i'm afraid that it would never live up to the book...
True, Alex. They left out so much in just the Fellowship alone. They even left out Tom Bombadill! How dare they!
people these days?
I think it would be awesome for the Silmarillion to be turned into a movie. I think it could be done. They'd have to cut an awful lot out, and the fans would get all annoyed, but they could just do the Quenta Silmarillion, start in Aman, introduce Eru, the Valar etc, talk about the elves, how they came in to being, how they got to Aman. Then we could have Feanor being born, the rebellion of Morgoth, the flight of the Noldor, etc. As a side story they could perhaps to the Akallabeth.
With alot of stuff cut out they could easily make it. Perhaps just about the Wars Of Beleriand ?
excellent idea elan,
a way that they could do it is that they could make the aiunindale (sp?) then the quenta silmarillion then akallabeth then an overview of all of the lord of the rings movies...just a thought
Yeah, they could make it a Trilogy, there is two Star Wars trilogies. Why not have two Tolkien trilogies.
I think they should chose one story, and make a movie of it, like how The Passion was one story in the Bible.
Pretty much my thoughts: I think that the chapter 'Of Beren and Lúthien' would make an awesome three and a half hour, magical movie.
Three and a half? That's a real stretch.
Hahaha, i dont think you could make their story three and a half hours long. What they need to make is the Flight Of The Noldor. I'd love to see Feanor shutting his door to Morgoth on screen, and Fingolfin's challenge. Plus, it would introduce characters such as Elrond and Galadriel, which movie goers would recognize from the original LOTR.
yeah ilya u think u know what ur are talking about. but even in segments the silm would be awsome
How about making it into a mini-series on HBO or something?
Well, I do. There are many, many occasions in the story that would take half an hour to make properly in a film but that are in the book dealt with one phrase. It's just a matter of deciding what to emphasize, what is cinematographical in the story etc... For example, how would you film "Thereafter for four years more Beren wandered still upon Dorthonion, a solitary outlaw; but he became the friend of birds and beasts (...)"? It could, of course, be done by putting some narrator to read the thing, but I wouldn't want the movie to become some "picture book", or a mere book adaptation. Though that "narrator thing" is something which would have to be used at SOME point to keep the movie from "stretching" over three and a half hours. But as I said, it's a matter of deciding what to emphasize.
Actually, it probably could be a three hour movie, because you'd have to explain all the backstory so the viewers understand what is going on and why. The actual Beren and Luthien story could probably be done in 2 hours at the most.
one movie could be used to explain the beginning of the book another movie for the middle for the book and another for akallabeth and of the rings of power and the third age.
I don't think they'd make "Of The Rings Of Power and the Third Age" into a movie, as the vast majority is told in The Lord Of The Rings.
