i`m interested if anyone made any weapons for his/her costume, no matter if steel, wood or whatever was used ?

i made myself a ranger sword and i used wood because in germany you arent allowed to carry a real sword to any public events. its not finished yet, but when its done ill post some pics !

btw: there are way too less users in this part of the forums !!!!

I carved a version of Hadhafang and if I could get it sanded and painted it would look pretty good.

Nice work with the wood Sefranox!

I'm modifiying a Black Baron Sword in order to make a Boromir Sword, I make mold from the handle with the one from my Narsil (which is very simmilar to the handle from Boromir Sword) and a piece of black leader wrapped on it, but I have real problems with the pommel, because don't know what to use... Resine, Ceramic, or maybe a wood piece with a milling machine, and then paint it...

If anyone has a tip about will be wellcomed! :D

you could also use zinc, its not very durable, but if you`re considering resine or ceramic, i think its not meant to be functional !?

zinc is melting at ca 230 °celcius, so you really can melt it in your oven or on a normal fire, you just have to make a casting mould (is that the right word ?), for that you could use cement for example.

i tried it some time ago, its really easy !

Of course, I'm not trying to make a functional sword, I just want one that realy looks like the Boromir sword.

Zinc... hm... Maybe I can try, my mother has a Bakeri, so I can use the industrial oven :)

    It's a very good Idea, I will try! :D

now... Anyone know how to make a Casting Mould? :p

    hmm, there are different possibilities.
you could carve one out of a piece of wax, then give it in cement (or somthing like cement) and let the liquid zinc pour into the cement casting mould.
instead of wax you can surely use wood, too.

thats how did it, its working quite good and at the moment i hav no other idea ...

I haven't exactly "made" this piece, I mearly refitted the decorative sword blade onto a much better hilt setup which I made from carbon steel.

It's a hybrid "Scimitar/Wakizashi", i call it a scimizashi :p But i've dubbed it "Flaming Heart"...i have yet to find the elvish translation of that to engrave in the blade though.

I am working on a knife, its not really for a costume just my own amusement. This is an early pic of it and the scabbard. I bought the bare blade from a knife making supply store (PM me if you want the link), and the wood and hardware from a hobby shop, the leather on the handle is form a belt I bought at a thrift store. I started to etch some elvish on the sides. It will eventually say "Sigildin ess nín. Drego dúaith." Which is "Small-star(or spark)-knife is my name. Flee shadows." It is looks a lot better now I just don't have any pics and I am away at school. Next time I go home I'll take some more pics.

I also have some sketches for a sword I want to make using a bare blade purchased from a supplier.

    flame
1.) lach (noun) literally.... a leaping flame 2.) lacha- (verb) literally.... to flame 3.) lacho! (verb) imperative of lacha- 4.) naur (noun)

    heart
1.) hûn (noun) 2.) gûr (noun) literally.... one's innermost feelings 3.) guren (noun) literally.... my heart 4.) ind (noun) literally.... innermost feelings

    of the
    en (genitive article) plural: in

so you could use Heart of the Flame: hûn en naur (Sindarin)

Does anyone have information on how to make scabbards? Also, what about fittings (mouth, chape)?

very nice wooden sword Sefranox !! How did you make the scabbard ? We have made a wooden Swallow sword from Chrono Cross and Cloud's Buster sword from Final Fantasy VII. And assorted other basic swords, some broken now. Actually we have enough swords and staffs to arm the whole neighborhood, the neighbors probably freak out when the troops all march out our door to go up to the woods to 'play' !

    thanks !
the scabbard is made of three layers of wood, two in the shape of the sword and one very thin layer between them to create the cavity for the blade. these three layers are nailed (with wooden nails, respectively toothpicks ;) ) and glued together, painted and enameled.

I just posted pictures of two scabbards I have made for a dagger http://gallery.fantasyvault.net/showphoto.php?photo=314&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 and my archer's short sword http://gallery.fantasyvault.net/showphoto.php?photo=315&password=&sort=1&size=medium&cat=500&page=1. The dagger was made by a friend and won by a friend who is now a duke as well as a knight. He gifted me with the dagger if I could make a scabbard for it. The edge is laced with a round lacing pattern of Spanish origin I believe. The short sword scabbard was built over the scabbard that came with the sword. The designs on the scabbard are the elements of my device as seen to the right of this post.
