    Souron coming back to life

I know a lot of people will probably disagree with me but, does anyone think it would have been cool to see Sauron come back to life in rotk and have a really cool fight with Aragorn?

No I think it would have been over the top. Besides. Sauron would kick Aragorns butt.

Besides, it took Elendil, Gil-Galad, and Isildur to take him down in the Last Alliance

And I'd say there was a good bit of luck in that battle.

actually, i always believe it only took gil-galad, elendil, and probably a hefty amount of the soldiers of numenor and elven-king. I've always believed that Isildur cut the ring from Sauron's hand AFTER all the fighting was said and.....wait, done and done. I felt the whole "step-on-blade-breaks-fluke-cutoff-finger" thing was kinda...hollywood-ish and a bit cheesy. Sure it looked nice, especially the exploding and knocking everyone over bit but i'm off topic now so.......whee....

Actually, I really wanted to see Sauron in physical form. Not fighting or anything, maybe on a throne or something. After all, there is a bit of a debate about his physical state at that point in the timeline. I distincly remember reading about Gollum saying that he saw the nine fingered tyrant when he was imprisoned in Barad-Dur.

I've only read the books twice. Can anyone confirm this?

I can't confirm the Gollum thing, but I don't recall any such statement. However, after the destruction of Numenor in which Sauron's body was caught, he was never able to take a true physical form again.

I beleive Gollum saw him through the power of Sauron over his mind. Just like Pippin saw him in the palantir, even though his eyes were closed.

That would have worked if Pippen or Aragorn were to see Sauron's physical form with the help of the palantir. I wouldn't mind that at all.

Actually, there is a scene in the books where Gollum says he saw the "Black Hand" of Sauron. Maybe he meant it literally, maybe not....

    Ahem.

"but Isildur, Elendil's son cut the ring from Saurons hand and took it for his own. Then Sauron was vanquished and his spirit fled and was hidden for long years, until his shadow took shape again in Mirkwood."- Gandalf, FOTR, The shadow of the past.

The BBC radio show changed it to " Thus was Sauron vanquished" as well.

I do remember Gollum saying something about seeing Sauron's 9 fingers, while he sat on his throne during Gollum's torment in the Barad-Dur, and Pippen did see Sauron in a sort of quasi-physical form through the palantir. But, Lady is wrong about her last statement, as Sauron was able to take a true physical form, just not a 'fair' form or a form he could use to decieve the the people of middle-earth to mask his evil again.

And I would have liked to see Sauron's confrontation in physical form with Aragorn (within the palantir) in a sort of struggle of willpower, if not even his interrogation with Pip as well. But a fight with Aragorn? No, that would be wrong and destroy what little of the original story was left in the films. Maybe the eye confronting Frodo while the ring was on in Mt. Doom (off topic a bit, hehe)...

After the Fall of Numenor, Sauron could take physical form, it was just black and ever-scorched. He lost his power to assume a fair form.
